Question Laser jammer/diffuser + radar detector poll

I miss my K40 unit; built in laser jammer and radar detector. This new car is just so quick that I feel like I need to get another system put in ASAP.

So, what are your thoughts on this unit and others? Portability to other vehicles is not high on my list. Not having something attached to my front window is.

Stories welcome...

Father-in-law (Boxter S) and I (964 - very red) are out for a Sunday morning drive doing about 90 on the freeway, I am in the lead. K40 tells me I just was hit with a laser (I almost had a heart attack from the warning). I slow down, the cop pulls out and the the Nissan behind us gets pulled over

One point for the K40.

i am very happy with my Passport 9500ix. I tapped the fuse box and hid the cord. The GPS based lockout of signals works very well. Now the only time my detector goes off is if there is a valid threat. I had a V1 and those are great, but I tended to ignore it, due to false alarms.

+ 1 on 9500 ix. Also using the Escort Live feature - saved me on the Northway.

+2 My BoxsterS had the ZR3 laser shifting unit installed on it and the Turbo had the 9500Ci installed when I bought it. GPS is great for learning the false signals and I have the readout installed in the rear view mirror. very stealth. it saved my bacon once already.

Go with the built in Escot 9500ci or 8500ci add the ZR4 laser shifter. I can tell you they work very well. My iuniot is mounted in the lower portion of the center console and looks as factory as you can get. The detector is very sensitive, and the laser shifeter works by jamming laser speed unite. Worth every penny!

I have a windscreen mounted Beltronics RX65 - my first foray into detectors. Windscreen mount is a bit ugly and I will probably move to a built-in unit in the future. I am still learning the advance warning time. I seem to get a lot of false alarms - k band at traffic lights and the odd laser warning when I can't see anyone - probably sensors from other cars I guess. GPS filter would be nice. I believe the better ones link the GPS location to a frequency so the cops can't "hide" their signal behind a false alarm.

Cheers Ben

I've been using a Valentine 1 since 2006 for my radar detector needs (love those arrows), but I'm feeling naked out there lately without a laser jammer as well. It may be time for a laser interceptor install before my next big road trip.

If I can't sufficiently visually scan for laser threats then I keep my speed (no matter what I'm driving) inside the +10 over that Georgia will give you. Since laser can not be used in a moving vehicle, if the visual arena is clear of stationary laser threats, then my V1 and my brain provide all the protection I need against radar.

I have the 9500ix as well and am a big fan. Hardwired, but I drive three different vehicles regularly and portability is important.

Diffusers are illegal in Texas, so not worth the $500 fine. It does a good job of picking up scatter from lasers. I've never taken a direct hit before i had a chance to slow down. In Texas lasers are rarely used on the open highway. Mostly in cities, where I don't rip around too much anyway.

V1 and the Laser Elite jammer. Old men like me just go with what we know…I have an original escort, a passport, and the V1….neverr found a reason to switch, and the arrows know all. The laser Elite jammer, in the two studies I read, is the only jammer out there that jammed the laser to the gun in every test.

If laser is used in your area the best performing system is Laser Interceptor hands down. Who cares if it's illegal where you live, so is speeding. Getting caught with a laser jammer won't land you in jail for excessive speed or increase your insurance premium for years to come.

Speeding ticket $100 - $200. Laser jammer $500. A friend of mine wasn't even speeding and got a $500 ticket because the LEO couldn't get a lock on him and pulled him over.

Not worth it IMO.
