Default 996 TT - Purchase Advice

Well, looks like I sold my Cayman S, I'm going to miss it, but really want a 996 TT.

I'm looking at 2001-2003 ish vintage cars (hardtop), would really appreciate knowing what to look for (out for) during a PPI.

Any input on maintenance that will need to be done at certain mileage/age intervals would be most appreciated as well.

Thanks so very much.

Bill

Hey Bill,

what was it about the Cayman S that you didn't quite do it for you? I'm still deciding if I should get the Cayman instaed of the 6TT. The latter is a supercar without a doubt, but the thought of having to make impending non-engine replacements on a car that is almost 10 years old is daunting. The CS on the other hand, is newer and has excellent driving dynamics - as much as I like the curves on a Cayman, I still consider it a girly car.

I know you didn't ask me, but drive both. The turbo power is very impressive.

Search - typical issues - clutch slave/accum, spoiler hydraulics, coolant reservoir. 02 received slight changes (glove box, cup holder), maintenance important, mods affect value.

Hi everyone

I need your expertise here. Does anyone know background/history about this Bay Area 996TT on AutoTrader? Thanks for any info in advance.

Actually loved the Cayman S...handling was incredible...almost too easy to drive...very forgiving. I actually like the curves on it, and in the right color (seal grey for me) it didn't look like a chick car...but I get what you're saying.

Came down to HP...actually looked at doing a turbo on the Cayman, but for the money, it made more sense to sell and buy a 996TT. Sold the Cayman to the first person who saw it for $30K...I took great care of it, and it showed.

Would like to hear your comparison once you get a 996TT. I thought about the Cayman S or 996TT - figured that I could always go from the 996TT to the Cayman S (a bit cheaper) if needed - but would have trouble going the other way (depreciation hit).
Ended up with an '03 996TT and have been loving it...it is alot of car and tons of fun.
