New 996TT owner. Questions on wheels
Hello:
Owned my '01 TT for a few weeks now, and really love it (understatement).
Previous owner had stock wheels painted, which look great, but not the look I am going for. I'd love a new set of polished 19" HRE P40's, but not ready for that price tag.
1) I see sets of GT3 wheels on ebay, that appear to be OEM. Would these fit this car? Would I need spacers (17mm?) and is there a downside to that?
2) What is the proper offset for this car?
3) Any input about moving from 18's to 19's?
Thanks in advance for any input. I've already learned a lot from this forum.

Welcome and great looking car.
True GT3 wheels should fit fine I believe. As for going to 19's, it can be tricky. There are two potential issues. First, the ride quality will suffer with no appreciable handling gains. It would be for looks only.
Second, getting the tire sizing right is important so you don't screw up the front diff and cause odd PSM behavior. The diameter of the front and rear tires needs to be within a few 10ths of an inch of each other. I don't think there are any N spec tires that meet that criteria, so you need to pay attention to the load ratings of the rear tires especially.
I looked into it, but there were so many variables, I dropped it.
Good luck.

Three Wheelin'
If you want to sell your wheels after you get new ones...let me know. I want black wheels and this would save me the trouble of painting over my old chrome wheels.

Regular GT3 wheels are not a good fit as the offsets are quite different:
GT3 - Frt 8.5" x 40mm offset
Rr 11.0" x 63mm offset
TT - Frt. 8.0 x 50mm offset
Rr 11.0 x 45mm offsets
There are oem GT3 style wheels out there that have the proper offsets. They were made for special order C4S cars IIRC. If you want the GT3 type wheels these are the ones to find.

That being said, I'd jump on a set of GT2's and be selling my GT3's in a heartbeat!

Parsonii how long have you had the wheels and tires on your car that are supposed to ruin the front diff? I keep hearing it, but keep seeing guys running 19's.
Doesn't the 997 have 19's? If they do, how do they do it? Or are they 18's as well?
I thought picking spark plugs was tough, this wheel thing is making me nuts. I have a chance to get a set of HRE's with tires for 3k but they're 19s.

I have 3 piece 19" Work Wheels on my Turbo and really like them. Also have H & R's and still think the ride quality is good. Here is a two year picture, but you get the idea.

here's some forgestar 18's i just put on in the gt2 fitment that mimic the p40 look without the cost. running 8.5 and 12's does limit your tire choices considerably but allows me ( forces me ) to stay with ps'2's since they're arguably one of the better tires for our cars. good luck with the car.
