Default Should I Stay Away from this...

I am looking to buy a 996 tt and saw this one listed on ebay. Has had a lot of GT2 upgrades. My concern is with the conversion to rear wheel drive (GT2 drive train).

that car seems overpriced, esp for its mileage. doesn't make it a bad car, just you'll probably do better by continuing your search. and yeah, i'd wan't more info on the rwd setup too..

add: the pics make it look like the "jersey shore" version of the 996t then there's the "issue" of the gt2 badging.. i dunno, but yeah.. keep lookin, i'd say.. good luck.

The mileage isn't that bad, but the 5 owners would concern me. It looks like it was well done on the outside, but you need a really good PPI to tell you if the hidden bits were done properly.

As to the GT2 badging, that can be changed back easily enough if it bothers you.

Beautiful looking car from the pics though. I normally don't like conversions as they tend to be overdone, but that one looks nice.

You will really have to check out a car like this pretty carefully. It has been very heavily modded and therein lies the problem. If everything has been done in an extremely professional manner it is probably ok. Sadly this is usually not the case. Often glass bumper covers and aftermarket spoilers are illfitting and harware bits have been not properly installed. The RWH could be a plus, but you would most likely want the original parts included. The car has been aggressively lowered. I'm wondering how it rides and handled. Was it done correctly? Lots of questions? If you have the time, check the car out in person and have a PPI done at a qualifyed shop.

I think it is just too much headache and moving on. Too many better options with less to worry about. Thank you all

FYI - there's a 2003 or 04 Turbo vert for sale in Morristown NJ. Its an X50 car. Other than the incorrect "S" badge on the rear deck, it "looks" like its in good shape (from a slow drive-by). Its at Thrift Auto. PPI, of course.

Probably in the minority, but I'd never buy a Turbo that has its AWD system converted to RWD.

Pics kind of skimpy, but both radiaters (A/C condensors) look kind of rough. The driver's side one looks like it has leak stains running down the leading edge.

Sincerely,

Macster.

He could have purchased the real thing for a lot less money than the amount spent on all of that tech art after market nonsense! What a waste.
