Black is scientifically proven to be the fastest color, according to Cliff Claven... Having said that, mines a bugger to keep clean. And dont get a tip--unless you commute through traffic every day. A real loss of driver involvement and a difference in performance too.
x50 option is nice because if you tune it, the turbos are bigger etc so you get a faster car. Talk to Kevin UMW--he knows his stuff.

If you have reservations about the Tip don't get it. I wanted a Tip but the car I found had a manual, glad I went with it. I still have aTip Boxster and had a manual 996 for 7 years.
The X-50 package was a big money maker for Porsche at over $17k or whatever it was. Slightly larger turbos, intercoolers, and a tweek in ECU electronics. The reality is, the non X50 spools and accelerates noticeably quicker. Top speed is within 1 mph, overall acceleration times ate nearly identical. Non X50 feels quicker in every day situations. Check threads, there's a lot written on this. I've driven both, brother had an X50 Tip and my non X50 manual felt a lot faster. When both cars were well into the rpm range and at a fairly high rate of speed they felt pretty equal.
There are no issues with the cab period. I had mine for 7 years, original top looked great at 61k miles when I sold it, no top issues what so ever. I had a hard top for winter that I used a few times. I'd highly recommend heated seats. Leather is damn cold and stays that way for a long time when the temps drop.

I went from ocean blue 99 996 to my 04 triple black 996tt cab tip. It is non x50, and I have a k16 flash. I think the black looks great, and a tip is not too bad. Would I get a tip again, probably. Do I love my 996tt, absolutely. You cannot find a better cab for $50-60K period.

I never desired a tip and traffic doesn't bother me a bit with the 6spd. It's a personnel thing I guess!
With that being said, i would not object to the newer PDK!
