Agree completely with the first part.

Regarding the second part, you're probably right there also... one caveat, I don't know what Porsche dealers use to value and subsequently list their cars, but it sure as hell isn't NADA unless they're marking them up a metric ton. I don't think they'd list a car for $59,995 if they internally valued it at $45k... but I'm admittedly naive/ignorant on the subject.

Every car I looked at from a dealer was priced above NADA retail, and below KBB retail. I bet if you researched it, you would find that is almost always the case with a reputable dealer selling a clean car. One of their sales pitches is that they are selling it below KBB. Remember, they buy or take trades based on NADA wholesale, so that's their cost basis in the car.

Most of the private sellers I looked at listed their car at or above KBB. I would do the same thing. If you can get the buyer to negotiate on KBB, then you will make a little more money. That said, I walked away from a couple of nice cars, because I couldn't get the seller to come down to the NADA range. I know for a fact that one of them sold the car 6 weeks later for less than I had offered.

My only point in this discussion, is whether buying or selling, gather the facts and be realistic in your expectations. Develop a strategy that will get you the deal you want and work it.

Always use NADA pricing over KBB. All the dealers use NADA for trade in and KBB for resale.

KBB is what's used in the credit union for loan info. When I was buying I needed cash to use on house projects, which i may say never end. I am at 3.9% and pay extra every month, she should be paid of in no time.

That's what we have been saying. KBB supports the retail end of the market, and NADA the wholesale.

Retail is higher than wholesale. Everyone makes money.

Would you rather buy wholesale or retail. Exploit the middle ground if you want a good deal.

I bought a 2001 996TT Guards Red Coupe, chipped with Sport seats, painted backs and center console, 25K miles for $43,000 back in February, 2011.

Sounds like you're in the ballpark if you like the options. If you don't like the options, like the cage, then have them knock a couple of Thou off the price. Tell them they can keep the rollcage.

Let's see some pictures.

Agree.

They'd ask 62,995.

You'd be shocked at the spread they can get on some trades.....

But back to the 59,995 number..they may list it there, but they'd respond to offers in inverse proportion to how long it was on the lot.
