Default Brake Pads

After running several track days I have come to realize the limited potential of the stock brakes on my 01 turbo, however seeing that a full brake upgrade is no where in its future I've been looking for pads that are more track oriented. Any ideas?

Pagid yellows up front with Pagid blacks on the rears. This combination helps to balance out the front bias that was built into the 996TT.

I use exactly the same setup as Larry. I change them to stock after track days. I had my shop disable the brake wear sensors. Changing them out let's me inspect pads, tires, adjust the front pss10's, and bleed the brakes.

+1 on the above. Also, upgrade to Motul for brake fluid and a pair of GT3 brake ducts up front.

Yes, Yellow front, Black rears. Motul 600 - NO ATE Blue or Gold in these cars.
996TT cars need the fluid kept quite fresh unless you are a beginner -

I personally have the PFC01 front and back and use SRF with OEM rotors. Zero fade at Watkins Glen.

I haven't used a ton of track pads, previously only used Hawk HT-10's. There is a thread on renntrack where several guys think the PFC pads are best for HPDE. I think they are a little bit cheaper too.

Why no ATE superblue? It isn't good enough? I have been using it and never had any problem. Then again i am a beginner and i am in Canada, not Arizona...

ATE is a good fluid, but as you create more friction, which these pads and other suggestions help you do. You need a higher temp fluid to prevent boiling of the fluid. Weight and power can play a role in building heat too. Boiling leads to soft pedals that need to be pumped to maintain good pedal pressure. Motul, SRF, PROSPEED are good choices as higher temp fluids, often used by pro teams and dedicated track rats! Chuck

The key is not just the obvious (pads and fluid) but more importantly COOLING.

I run the PFC06 in front and PFC01 in rear with SRF fluid. However, I was losing my brakes (fade) about 15 minutes into a session until I went with 6pot fronts and cup cooling ducts. If you are going to track this car and do it with heavy braking you need at a minimum the cup ducts. This car is VERY heavy and without great cooling you can overheat the brakes very easily.

I have zero fade now

Plus 1 for SRF and cup cooling ducts.
