Default Thoughts on low mile 2003 996tt

Hey guys and gals, I spend most of my time on the 993 board but wanted to see if you guys could help me out. My father-in-law has a 2003 996tt that he is thinking of selling so I told him I would float it by this group to get an idea on price.

It is an absolute mint car in, silver exterior and black interior with 14,500 miles. Non-X50, supple leather, premium sound, I think 8-way power seats on both sides. A decently optioned car but not crazy. It had new tires a couple years ago at 10k and the 15k service was done last year.

What would you expect this car to trade for in a private party sale? I was thinking $55-$60k?

TIA

Visit NADA or KBB sites and plug in the vehicle details and see what these sites have to 'say' about the car's trade-in or private or retail sale values.

My opinion -- with maybe outdated market price info -- is you're a bit optimistic seeking $55K to $60K.

In June 2009 I paid $57.7K for a 2003 996 Turbo with under 10K miles with a 2 year CPO warranty. Car stickered new in 03 for $119K and change. Options? not much over the standard Turbo fare: Power seats with memory, no supple leather (just the standard black leather), no premium sound (6-Cd changer in the front trunk), rear window wiper. Arctic silver with black leather. Floor mats.

I would be surprised (though good for you if I am surprised) if you could get $60K for that car now. I would even be surprised (but again good for you if I am surprised) if you could get $55K for that car now.

But detail the heck out of it and give it a shot.

Sincerely,

Macster.

I just bought an 04 turbo cab CPO for low 50s. I'd guess mid to upper 40's based on what I saw when looking. But check out NADA to confirm I found it to be very accurate when I went to negotiate.

My use of NADA shows "Clean" trade-in at $45K and clean "retail" at $50K. These numbers include a $10K bump for the low mileage.

Market can be fickle for an 8 year old car.. especially since its one generation old (997s are out) and soon 2 generations old.

Sounds like a really nice car though.

Thanks for the thoughts everyone. You know, one thing I didn't think of was the car will not have a CPO and I bet that would put it at the lower end of desireable given the choice. Someone might rather have a 25-30k mile car with CPO over a non CPO 15k mile car. The only thing that will attract them will be an enticing price. When I did a KBB search I got $56k which is where I got the $55-$60k (I know KBB is usually quite low on actual market value for 993 prices). I guess it so far seems more like $50k or even potentially less. I wish he would just keep the car and actually drive and enjoy it...he is going to take such a hit on it...it makes me cringe! He traded in a boxster s for it 5 years ago and it had 10k miles on it..hard to think the car has lost another 35-40% of it's value!

Can't hurt to post it up and see what you get for it, interest wise.

One thing about 911's though... you can see any generation 911 driving down the road and more people than not will think to themselves, "That's a cool car."

<$50K. If you price it much higher it will probably sit. But if you list at $49.9K, you will probably see a lot of interest, and should be able to deal it. (supple leather is a negative IMO). GLWS.

Alternatively, make your father-in-law an offer.

NADA, not sure why you are using NADA. Every dealership I have ever done business with uses blue book. 49K to 52K is for a 2002 with low mileage. I would think low 50K is a great deal, mid 50's is a good deal. That's what they are going for in my neck of the woods and they are not sitting. S Fla is a pretty good market for 996tt. I think your location has a lot to do with it.

For a private party sale you will need to be around $45k. Selling to someone you know that loves the car and is not shopping around maybe $47-$48k or even more. Lots of these cars for sale and the ones that are moving are aggressively priced. It's a buyers market on these. A Porsche dealer that has a list of clients looking for a clean low mile Turbo and offers CPO may get low to mid $50s or better.

Spring is here and the car will never be worth more than it is right now. It will loose another $4k+ by this time next year. GLWTS

Adam,

I have a buddy local here that just sold his 03 996TT with same options and 33k miles for 45k private sale. The dealer was going to give him 40k trade in on his new gt3. Car was pretty close to mint and he was a meticulous owner.

There will always be someone that is willing to pay a little more for a low mileage car in pristine condition. I'd bet 50ish.

From a seller's point of view he is free to use whatever online web site's numbers or make up his own and set a price.

He needs to be prepared to justify this price.

Very desirable model. Everyone knows the 996 Turbo is the best Porsche made.

Daily driver or weekend toy or track beast or any combination.

Optioned just right.

Low miles.

Well maintained.

Perfect exterior and interior colors.

One of a kind car.

And so on.

Express everything abou the car as a positive. IOWs, *sell* the car.

Sincerely,

Macster.

I hear the sales info from many customers and emails from many folks across the US.

I think that "IF" you nee to fire sale the car $38 to 40K is what dealers are giving for this car.

In a private sale the range is going to be $45 to 52K depending on how the car is presented, and "if the car owner is the original purchaser and options.

I am hearing alot of sales at around $45K!!

Thanks all for the continued replies and opinions. He is going to take some pictures and get things prepared to list it. I've had a couple people interested and send me PM's so we'll see what they are willing to offer. I get the feeling he would like to see mid $50's for the car based on his research of cars listed. I told him that the cars listed don't mean that is the sale price and they could just be sitting at that number. He gets where the market is and will sell at whatever market is for his particular car...I just think he wants to move on to a different car.
