Default 2001 Glove Compartment - Aftermarket??

Obviously, my 2001 Turbo doesn't have a glove compartment. And, I miss having one. Is there an aftermarket glove compartment that you can buy? Will the glove compartment from a 2002 or later fit in the space below the passenger airbag?

Or, am I just going to have to get used to not having one?

thanks

Without a total dash replacement, etc......there is always the larger rear center console that Bird Automotive sells.

I think you need to get used to not having one. While you could get a 02 dash, you have to modify some ducting to make it all fit. Seems like more trouble than it's worth for the little storage area.

Yes, it looks like I will have to get used to not having one. I might be willing to fiddle around with a small piece of the dash. But, replace the entire dash? Not in the cards.

Dell and Deckman, thanks for the information.

Yup, simple dash swap and updated ducting will take care of that. It's not as bad as you might think: No carpet needs to come out, I was doing an interior color change at as well.

Oh, Yes, now I see how easy that is. Yup, I'm gonna rush right out and get those new parts, and then just pull a couple of torx screws, and Viola - I have a car that looks like the picture above. Hmmm is it hard to drive like that? You know, in case I don't get it all done in one sitting!!!!

Just slap the steering wheel on the splines and get out the milk crate!

even though i have not removed the dash, i have removed many interior parts like the steering wheel, center console, radio, air conditioning controls ect. i agree with DOC that it is really not difficult if you know where all the fasteners are..you do need a special tool that you can buy at the dealer to remove the radio. go to www.renntech.org for information on DYI for removal of interior components.

I removed the dash in my sepc boxster race car so we could have it dyed and it was not difficult at all. There is about dozen or so fasteners. I can upload a pic of the locations if you like.

Honestly, I think that the chances of my taking the dashboard apart on my car are very slim or extremely remote, with an emphasis on the latter. So, Dell and Manny, thanks for the willingness to help, but I don't think that I'm a candidate for that job right now.
