Default Tires Hankook V12

I am sure the tire topic has been debated on this site much like the oil topic.
I am just soliciting opinions, if any one has used the Hankook V12 tire that through my research seems to be getting extremely high marks. This tire carries the same speed rating , and the same load rating as "N" series tires
(98). Yes I know it's not a "N" rated tire, but i am sure some on this site who do not track their cars are running non-"N" rated tires.

I have been told just the opposite that the sidewalls are much stiffer. I've heard the other popular tire (the Sumitomo's) have the softer sidewall. I have heard nothing but great praise for the tire.

FYI....I just had a set mounted this past week. I won't be able to give a review until I get some miles on them. First drive this weekend!

The Hankooks do not have softer sidewalls, the load index is 98 (1653) vs the Sumitomos have a load index of 94 (1477). The 98 index load rating matches the Michelins N rating.

Great thread...this is EXACTLY what I wanted to know as I am overdriving the sumi's now and don't want to go into 1500 a set tires just yet..

These might be the next best option unless Michelin decides to do the "right thing" and sell the super sports in our size for 150 front and 250 rear..

Dell, please report back asap. And, tia.

ok here is my exp

997 2006 4S. had PS2s went cheap route and put V12s on the rear about.... 4 months ago?

at first the car was "shaky" at 90mph to 100mph. the car felt "sway" like to me at these speeds. this bothers me and will likely you since the car should be able to do 160, 170, 180 no problem. how would the car perform at those speeds with V12s? i am uncertain. i will only take it up to the 100mph range. they have since worn in and i can get the car up to the levels 90, 100mph with no noticeable problems and do not notice the sway and shaky i felt with them newly on. i would say they take 2000k ish to break in. is the shake and sway description a little exaggerating? yes, its something you have to feel for yourself. but i do not recommend these tires and would not put them on again. also the grip is worse obviously than the ps2s and the v12s catch themselves and are slow to grip in downhilll cornering, for instance.

i have issues with tires not being n rated. i only started researching n rating etc AFTER the V12s were put on my car, since i wanted to hear others on this forum and their recommendations for the V12s. (a boxster owner recommended the v12s to me... never again)

ON BALANCE and what this comes down to is this: Porsche knows more than i do and they do not recommend V12s. i will stick only with the tires they recommend, n rating only. for me to put tires on a car they do not recommend is arrogant on my part and makes the assumption i know more than they do, which its false. i will only take their recommendations from this point forward.

sorry for the grammer errors, been a long week. but finally a 911 day tomorrow... and if i see you out, its thumbs up

I for one don't think to highly of the Michelin PS2 not worth the $450, and the y way they perform on my car now. As per my above reference from Car and Driver the V12 faired very close. Based on the Y speed rating and load rating of 98 can't imagine why anyone would have a negative feeling for high speed. The numbers equate to the Porsche N rating. Overall most information I have seen and I have researched a lot, these seem to be the the answer to the $450 street use dilema! I know there are variables not all V12's in differebnt sizes will produce the same result. I can only speak for the 295-30-18on a turbo car, which seems to produce very favorable results. Lets see what Dell reports!

Just took a LOOOOOOOOOOOONG drive this morning (~100 miles) to really start to play with the tires. They still need a tad more breaking in but I can say these puppies are stiff. They are not noisy but they do report quite a bit road feel if that makes sense. Also, the cornering felt very planted with non sidewall roll whatsoever.

I'll have a better report when I get some miles logged in. But right now, they were worth every bit of the $800 installed and then some. Not spending $1500 plus on PS2's anymore.

I didn't think the V12's were "N" rated...
