Suspension Question
Someone locally has said that the shocks and springs from a 2004 GT3 will work (with modification) on 2002 996 Turbo. I didn't think this was correct.
Can anyone enlighten me or point me to a thread were this has been discussed?

With modifications it will work.. However, the ending results aren't worth it.
This is due to the spring rates >> your engine is 115 pounds heavier and the front is 88lbs heavier .. plus or minus..
You would be better with a GT2 package. It will bolt right in with the GT2 uprights, you would lose your 4wd.
A better choice would be to buy a bilstein package with monoball/camber plates to mimic the GT2 and GT3. The best of the best is to use the 996GT3RS or 997GT3RS uprights..
Please note, that a local Rennlister is completely rebuilding his Bilstein PSS9 kit.
Bilstein will rebuild and revalve the struts to any spec. They are very good pieces of hardware. The problem is the spring package is too soft. Basically you take the rear springs and place them on the front. You then buy new rears. The target package is now closer to 571 F/700 R..

Kevin, I am not considering this option. I just would like to know: (on another board it was stated that the GT3 strut/springs will work on a TT with "minor" modification)
a) will a GT3 shock / spring work on a 996TT? (you've answered this)
b) What modification has to be done? (Is it minor or major?)
c) In order to use a GT3 strut/spring on the TT does one lose there 4WD?

I asked the question on the local PCA forum - someone is selling the springs/shocks at a swap meet at a shop about 3 minutes from my house - so I asked whether it would work thinking it might be better than current factory set-up. Apparently not.
Thanks for the input.

I opted for 450/670 because I still drive my car on the street. The stock PSS9 (and I believe PSS10 as well) is 225/515. Shocks are back from Bilstein. Had to reorder the front springs one inch shorter than the original because we couldn't get the ride height low enough. They are going in this weekend, scaling the car, and going for alignment Monday morning. We'll see...

Spoke to the owner of Protosport at the swap - who has done all the work on the 6GT3 in question. He said that the only modification needed to fit the 6GT3 suspension on the 6 turbo is the addition of a sleeve over the shock upright, which had to be fabricated.
I also asked him about the difference in spring rates, and greater weight of turbo. . . while I don't remember exactly what he said, I wasn't persuaded to buy the shocks/springs in light of the comments above.
The seller also had front and rear sway bars from the 6 GT3 - would they be an improvement over stock turbo sways?

Picked up the car this morning, and between the snow, stiff springs and rough alignment, it was a weird ride just the 3 miles to the alignment shop! Aligned it to GT2 specs, and the car feels really good. It dried out in the afternoon, so the drive home was a pleasure. A bit rough on the city streets, but smooth enough on the highway. The car feels really planted and stays very flat on cornering.
I won't really know until I get to the track, which is still almost 3 months away at Mid-Ohio April 15-17.
