Default Tire shock. Just received a quote for...

new tires for the Turbo. Front tires are down to 1-2mm and the rears down to 3mm so new tires are close to being required.

Conti: 225/40 ZR18 N2 $229
Mich: 225/40 ZR18 N2 $296

Conti: 295/30 ZR18 N2 $377
Mich: 295/30 ZR18 N2 $497

$40/each to mount/balance.

I was thinking of giving Michelin tires a try on the Turbo since I really like Michelin tires on my Boxster, having run more sets of Michelin tires on the Boxster than I can reliably remember, but the price difference... Ouch!

Thankfully the Continental tires have been pretty darn good.

Sincerely,

Macster.

I've always had good luck with Continentals, I especially like their winter tires

Try the Sumitomos - for around $600 you can get a complete set in OEM sizes from Damon at Tire Rack. I put them on my 01 TT and liked them just fine.

I had Pirelli, Michelin and Bridgestone on my 996TT. Recently I replaced the Bridgestone and installed front and rear Sumitomos, and on the street they are quiet, compliant and handles just fine like the previous tires. In fact, I like it much better than the Pirellis which were extremely loud.

You seem to drive a lot and with a wear rating of 300 and a full set out the door for $800 I would think about it.

Sumis are great for pure street use. I have ran them on the track as well, but have to watch overheating them.

I just checked the tire website mentioned above. for a set of 325/25/19, I thought they were VERY pricey. Is it just the size I'm looking for?

Whoa! I hope not those are wide tires! OEM's are 295/30/18, do you have 19" wheels?

With all the money you spend on preventative maintenance at a Porsche dealer, is that $340 really a big deal?

Plus I didn't think Contis are OE approved on the turbo- yes, N rated, but didn't see them listed for the Turbo, but admittedly my list is old....

I recently put on a set of Hankook V12's and they are nice. 1/2 the price of Michelin's. They were almost perfectly balanced from the factory - used hardly any wheel weight to balance them. Great look, too - very low profile.

My 01 came with Continental tires from the factory.
If there is an N rated tire, that would mean that Porsche has homologated the tire, hence it should be approved.

I run Kumho Ecsta's on my car. Been very happy with them. Also a lot less expensive than Contis and Michelins.

Right, and still are approved.
