I did an oil change on mine when I picked it up and drained the turbos. I can tell they had never been drained before since there were no crush washers. I got about a cup out of each. They're deep 8mm allens, you're not going to strip them.

You do mean 0/40 and a "5-50" mix, no? Yeah, I've probably tried that mix too. All I know is in high ambient temperatures, my gut and motor tell me that factory fill M1 0-40 is way too "shearable" for hot climes. At least that's how I hear it!
50% 04W40 and 50% 5W50 Mobile 1. If they didn't have the 0W40 I would of just went straight 5W50..I read about here and figured why not. For what its worth, even after spirited driving it seems to be holding up alot better in terms of oil level. It had some other brand of synthetic 5W40 in it before and it would drink a bit of oil but I suppose it was finally breaking down and getting thinner?

5W50 is prob the way to go

As I've said I really prefer the 5-50. I did mix 50/50 with Castrol Edge a few times. 5/40 ( 5 qts ) 5/50 ( 3.5 qts ) but gave up on that. I also stopped checking the oil level while stopped at redlights. Too many cars honked at me while waiting for the gauge to show me one missing "bar".

T2 uses factory fill and has almost a million miles on his.

Back OT! It is really hot here low 100's and just the other day as I was cleaning the car up from it's two weeks on jackstands ! I started the car and of course heard.... rattle/chatter/accker whew. I swear it's just momentary "oil starved" sounds. But it is an awful sound, to be sure!
I prefer the look over the standard wing and no hydraulics to fail is a huge plus. I probably paid slightly more than I should have due to Aerokit (and full carbon interior) but what can you do. I want to get another front Aero lip and paint it body color to have for car shows and what not.

It was so hot yesterday that I couldn't touch the top of my shifter. Not quite as hot as what you are describing but took the car a while to cool down even with the sunroof and windows cracked while parked. We are going to Tucson this summer to visit the PIMA and hopefully the boneyard if my Wife's contact comes through. I am not looking forward to that level of heat but at least no humidity like we have here. I don't think the ambient temps have an effect on my clatter.

I made life very easy with my oil changes. I also like to know if there are metal particles in my engine and turbos. So I replaced all the oil drain points, turbos included, with magnetic plugs. I only need a 17mm socket to do the whole thing! I bought them from "drainplugmagnets.com but it seems to me that the company no longer exists.... There must be an alternative somewhere..... The size of the plugs are 18 X 1.5 and 20 X 1.5....

My car was making me nervous for about 2 years, with an audible "tick" during the first 5 minutes or so of run time. This would happen almost every drive, but more noticeable the longer the car sat between drives. I went from Mobile 0-40 to Motul Xcess 5-40 with little improvement.

This year I went to 5-50 and the sound has virtually disappeared. Very happy!

I too am a 5w-50 convert. My car spent its life in heat and since the heat in fl is close to phones these days ….the weight makes a difference and is noticeably quieter.

I agree and I think that anyone here that (A) vs (B) compared them and the "rattle" using M1 5-50 would also agree it quiets the rattle. It is not a myth, but I also have the car in very hi outdoor spring/summer temps. So, that could well be a factor. I think it's too hot for anything with a "0" viscosity.

When I saw this thread it caught my eye because while my TT doesn't do the clatter my '97 Boxster that I bought new does on every start up because I don't use it much (only 23,000 miles currently). I hate the sound of the clatter even though I have been assured it is not an issue. What I do is bump the starter for a few no start revs, wait a second and then start the car. Works almost every time. As a side, I run Motul 05W-50 in the TT and have much less mechanical noise.

Update: the CEL that my car threw was of the P0300 variety - multiple cylinder misfire detected. further told me it was cylinder 2 and cylinder 4. cleared the code and have put approximately 200 miles on since. no clatter on start up and no codes either. she is running very well.

for what it's worth Fairfield County Motorsports used Moble1 5w-40 in the oil change. Will look into the use of other oils mentioned. Thanks all!

You do what?! Turn the starter quickly with no intention of starting it, but then start it? Never known or heard of that before, and I could never do that!
