OT, but unless your car was jacked up at the RF, your brake reservoir looks like it's overfilled. No room for expansion.

Indeed it is overfilled, and I had previously noticed it myself - although I was told that "it's not a problem as long as it's not leaking". I dropped the car off this evening at the mechanic for a 48K service, plus the long list of faults - and that should include a complete flush of brake fluid anyway. And no - the mechanic is not the one who made the statement about the overfill not being a problem!

The third party warranty will not pay for a fuel pump. Apparently, being able to hear it whining from 10ft away even over the engine noise is not a failure. The car breaking down and me being stuck on the hard shoulder of a motorway would be a failure.

I thought the sarcasm was obvious. Apparently not obvious enough.

I got it. I think it just proves Orient Red Metallic owners have the same level of wit.

Indeed! I get a lot of compliments on the color.

Hope your shop takes care of the fuel pump whine.

The whine has apparently been solved - new fuel pump already fitted, even though I'll be the one paying for it.

There has been some good news. When the mechanics called this morning, they told me that in addition to the suspected radiator leak, I also had a coolant leak from the engine area. They had to take quite a lot off (including alternator) and I was told if it was the "cross pipe" (think that's what he said) I wouldn't see the car again for at least a week. Turned out it was simply a loose jubilee clip so although I'll get stung for a few hours labour, that's now sorted.

The left and centre radiator were also leaking, and the warranty company have agreed to pay for them (and the right hand one is only 6 months old). They've also agreed to pay for a new solenoid for the secondary air bank system (keeps logging faults) and a new MAF.

So, I think the service bill will still be high, but at least the warranty covers some things - and hopefully the car will come back fully sorted. How long for, time will tell.

Well, that's quite a list. I do hope you are done for a while and get to just enjoy the car.

Early in my research on the Turbo came across some Turbo buyers guides in UK published indy Porsche mags and all reported the radiators prone to leaks so the radiator leaks just the car staying in character.

I had my Turbo in the shop 1st of June for almost 3 weeks a while back. Almost like getting the car all over again.

Sincerely,

Macster.

And the grand total is......... just over £2,600.

Apparently, the warranty work totals about £1,200 of that so although I'll have to pay up front, once the warranty company pay up the cost to me will be about £1,400.

Bargain.......

OK - I have to ask - is a whining fuel pump common?

I've had my car back from the service about 3 weeks, complete with a brand new fuel pump. And what did I hear on the way home today? Yep - a nice whine from the new fuel pump.

It's not anything like as loud as it was before - but I did hear it over the stereo (at low volume).

The tank is just over 3 quarters full (I filled it up last night).

Hmm - thanks.

Anybody remember the old days, when Porsche was a premium car brand....?
