ok bostonduce,

are you saying the 996 turbo crankcase was updated and additional webs were fitted- internally or externally?

when did that happen?

Externally, a new case casting in 2004 featuring more indentations or "webs".

Otherwise, same case since '89.

The 996 Turbo crankcase part number 996 101 901 71 hasn't changed.

Would a new casting or new case have a new number?

Anyone have a photograph of the additional webs?

Isn't the X-50 muffler different from a standard turbo muffler?

No. GT2 has a different part number, but X50 and standard are identical.

from the above link -

MJ, I think that they share the same crankcase with the 964/GT1. They block has been changed in 2004 to the newer and more robust "spanish" case.

x50 muffler; 996.111.987.76

regular TT muffler; 996.111.027.75

GT2's also had at least one specific part number for it's muffler.

Can't tell the difference from the outside.

Spanish case was probably the result of Porsche's outsourcing spree to cut costs.
