Is it true that pre-2005 x-50 cars did not receive the S badging? Interestingly attached image from an on-line 2003 x-50 car for sale clearly with the Turbo S badging. It does have standard rotors with red calipers.

My guess is that somebody has fallen down the insecure rabbit hole and decided to badge a car something it isn't. A shame really since a Turbo is the pinnacle of the Porsche line (excluding the GT cars) and the S just denotes the special package of extras added to the Turbo. A base model Turbo with zero options and a Turbo "S" with every option imaginable is at the end of the day the SAME car and only a list of options differentiate it to make each owners experience more tailored. To further it, NO x50 optioned car got a "special" badge (nor did the carrera line with their x51 option). But some with the x50 package will make sure you know it though through vanity plates, etc.. I just don't get it. At least it didn't have a "GT2" badge on it. I've seen several of those on Turbos as well.

Just never understood the fake badging thing. Especially on a Porsche since the few people that actually know what it is really don't care and the average Joe on the street wouldn't know the difference between a 996 Turbo and a 997 Turbo much less what the heck the S means.

I completely agree. I was in Seattle a few months back saw a Boxster with a Carrera badge. I could only shake my head in disgust.

Back on topic, as others have mentioned, open the trunk lid and examine the factory options sticker for "X50".

I don't see that on PET - do you have a part number?

Is there a picture of this different oil pan? Are you referring to the sump or the tank or something different?

the oil tank is the same, the only difference is the oil pump. please refer to the 996TT PET illustration 104-00, the oil pump for the base model p/n 996 107 008 70, for the X50/GT2 is 996 107 007 93. the later has 2 oil intakes.

Ah, so it's the pump, not the pan. Thanks for the clarification.

I'm assuming you are referring to a Carrera/Boxster getting the x51 pan as our cars do not have the same motor.

Maybe referring to the updated webbed split case?

I didn't think that was X-50 specific-just production date dependent.
