What your agent tells you counts for nothing.
Whatever you learn you need to get it in writing and if you read the fine print in your policy's paperwork there's probably a section that says that no one has the authority to change any of the clauses, or something to that effect.
What your agent tells you is worth nothing, unless the agent is willing to put it in a letter with the insurance company's letterhead on the paper, in other words, give you something in writing that you would be expected to believe is official and binding should it come to this.
Also, changes can be made at any time to the fine print of your policy. You have to be sure you have the latest copy of your policy's coverage details on hand and read it through several times.
Sincerely,
Macster.

I've been with USAA for over 20 years and have to give them a plug here. Great company to deal with. They began as an insurance company only for commissioned military, then extended to dependents, then to all military.
I "believe" that they now serve everyone, but, that may be a state to state thing. Some states require that if you offer insurance in that state, you must offer to everyone. USAA just doesn't advertise this.
IF you're interested, the best thing is to give them a call and ask. They have NO local agents and do everything by phone or electronically via the net.

Based on my experience with Allstate and my 03 996 Turbo I would not want Allstate to get within a mile of my cars.
I must stress that low premiums and smiling faces at the office when you pay your insurance premium counts for something, but the real test of an insurance company is when you have to file a claim against it, and the worst is if you have to file a claim against your own.
My experience was a real eye opener. You do not deal, except in a superficial way, with your agent. You deal with a remote adjuster, or a pool of adjusters, which are -- based on my experience -- trained to mislead, deny, forget, ignore, do anything and everything they can do to pay out as little money as possible.
Even though in CA the insurance rules/regulations state what an insurance company can and can not do these rules are ignored or outright violated much more often than they are followed.
Fixing the car is not a concern. Seeing your loss addressed is not a concern. Seeing you quickly back on the road is not a concern. Getting the car restored to its pre-collision condition is not a concern.
Paying out as little money as possible, none if they can get away with it, is the only concern and one they pursue with a vengance.
Sincerely,
Macster.

I insure everything I own, except my exotic bikes through USAA. Rates ate competitive, sometimes cheaper than everyone else, but they really shine when u file a claim. You get the best service I've ever experienced from any company. They used to be military only, but I think they have expanded their membership requirements.

State Farm blackballed me for filing a claim against them in 2000. A friend of mine said I'm on a 'don't insure list' that as an agent he was able to access.
I was rear-ended by one of their insured. My Jetta VR6 was repaired for $11K, got diminshed value of $1600, and medical claims of $6K were paid. Less than 20K all in for what should have been a totalled car.
Apparently, the fact that I didn't accept their first offer $5200 for everything rubbed them the wrong way.

I've heard bad things about Progressive... My BMW dealer will not let you take a loaner if it is Progressive.
I had CSAA ( AAA for California) but switched back to State Farm. Over the last 20 years that has been my only two companies, SF for 10, CSAA for 8, back to SF in 2008.
