Default Can you get a good 996tt for $35k

Hi All

I am in the UK and recently sold my 964 cab with the hope of one day purchasing a 996tt.

I have imported from the US before, but do you believe its possible to pick up an good 02 996tt for $35k. I am not looking for a garage queen or ultra low mileage car but a good usable example

Any thoughts or insight appreciated bearing in mind I will be buying from overseas (PII is a given).

Thanks
Rob

Sure, anything's possible. You won't know if you don't look for the car, that's for sure. Try www.autotrader.com and various classified ads on Porsche enthusiast sites. Also, check out the ads on PCA site.

Have you considered shopping for a used 996 Turbo on the continent? I read several UK car mags and Porsche specific mags and there have been some reports of people buying a Porsche from either a private seller or car dealer on the continent.

A candidate car much closer to you and I suspect a bit easier to import than one from USA. Also, you could take train, plane or even ferry to the continent to view the car. If you buy you can drive it back to UK.

One story I read was about a guy who took ferry to Hamburg IIRC and met owner of 964 at ferry dock and consummated deal then and there for the car.

However, someone the buyer knew and trusted had looked over the car beforehand and had given a thumbs up on the car. Buyer put car back on return ferry and went back to UK with car.

Sincerely,

Macster.

That's about a dealer's current "wholesale" offer in this depressed economy. Upon resale they or a private seller would expect more, of course.
Wouldn't having the the steering wheel on the right side of the car, especially a high performance one, be worth a few grand?

Hi

I bought my 964 from Germany when the Euro rate was good, now days our economy is in the toilet and buying cars from Europe is a non starter 1 euro to the pound. I sold it back into Europe for what I paid for it 8 years ago.

Having the steering wheel on the other side is not an issue for me as I do most of my miles in Europe. My 964 was LHD and so is my 912 (US model).

Porsche design all their cars in LHD and then RHD for the UK market is an afterthought. With all that power it does not matter what side of the car the steering wheel is on.

The 996tt is my ultimate car and I just wanted to see if the dream would ever be a reality given the current market.

Thanks

I've seen 996 TT 2001 - 2003 ranging in price from 40k USD - 60k USD - But it appears to be you can buy a good example in the states 2001 - 2002 - about 40k - 45K safely depending on condition and options. I've seen a weird color combo (green)and tip go for 38k

Right on. GOOD cars are minimum $42k. Even wholesale dealers are still paying $40+ for nice 996 Turbos. Higher mileage cars or not-quite-as-nice ones might be in the 30s, but they are going to be few and far between and probably not worth the risk.

Hi Guys

I would normally get it inspected by an independent, but I am going to take your advice and hold off until next year and I can afford a little more.

Thanks
