He was banned because he removed his sponsorship status from the board. Once a sponsor does that, IB immediately bans them. His status was later returned to lifetime member as it was before. The board is all based on money now.

Guess that explains why he has not answered any of my emails. I was in contact with him to do some work when I got back from Iraq .. but have not heard back from him for a while. Doesn't sound good.

i doubt that IA has closed their doors. they are one of the premeir porsche shops around. However, this economy can hurt anyone. hope that someone here can confirm that Stephen is still around..

He is definitely closing up shop. When I spoke to him last week, he was the sole employee (down from 12). I hope he lands on his feet and will still be available for work on our cars.
Times like this are oppressive for a small business owner, and the conjunction of the recession, some additional competition (well-promoted but not superior), and the fact that it takes new customers while Porsche sales are down creates a lethal business environment. I believe he will do everything possible to fulfill his commitments. AS

From what was said on another forum it sounds more personel than anything. I am sure he will be back whether it's his own company or working for someone

Sometimes there is no clear right or wrong. If business dries up and an owner can't pay the help, the help is let go. Then there are multiple projects in the shop with nobody to do them, so the remaining work backs up. But, if fixed operating costs exceed what one worker can bring in, rent falls in arrears, and eviction transpires. So, unfinished cars are trapped in a catch 22. Then, a guy who has tried hard to build a reputation for good work is faced with a situation where he can't fulfill his earlier commitments.
He told me he is keeping the email address open, so that is probably the only way to reach him. AS

AS has it exactly right, a tight porsche market, tighter mod market in a very small porsche geographic market share, got the best of him I'm afraid. I'm sure he meant no harm and was only trying to keep his head above water, just gets overwhelming, crap happens fast.
My question is this, what happens to customers cars in various states of repair when the landlord locks the doors?

Stephen also helped me a bunch over a year ago when I purchased my 996TT, which the previous owner had sent to IA for Stage IV upgrades. I changed a bunch of emails with Stephen and also a few phone calls. I also went through him to get a new exhaust a few months later. I found him terrific to deal with.
I sure hope he can land back on his feet and all his customers come out of this mess okay. I live in the Detroit area and work in the auto industry--not much fun right now.
