Default Do X50's burn substantially more fuel than a normal TT ?

Reading past Road and Track magazine on the 996 GT2 (same engine, less weight ) it says that they got 12 mpg during their "normal" testing. I assume this means that the high speed acceleration runs were not factored in.
The standard TT is supposed to get 16 or so ?
Do the bigger turbos contribute to less fuel mileage in normal driving ?

My guess is since the K24's move more air, they would need more fuel. As far as normal driving, depends on your definition of normal but I think the X50 would get the same if not slightly worse mileage.

It all comes down to your right foot...

A tank full of gas can last anywhere from 90 to 350+ miles...

I just went to a DE day recently....made five 20 minute runs and used about a little more than half a tank.....so that would be around 12 mpg.....this was on a closed race course with sharp turns, up and downshifts, straights where I'd be hitting 130....so I dont' consider that to be excessive for the X50. Now I have to qualify this post by saying that I'm a beginner to intermediate driver...so I don't drive as hard as some of the guys. One of my friends who owns a Porsche shop told me he ran the same course and they got about 7 mpg throughout the day and went thru two tanks of gas. I don't know what performance mods they had on the car....so that could also affect the gas consumption....but being a P Shop owner, I would imagine the car was heavily modded.

I filled up and ran the mileage for the 109 mile trip home and the OBC showed 23.4 mpg. Jaime...I've NEVER gotten 350 miles out of a tank of gas in the X50....are you saying you have? I don't think even the non X50 would get 350 miles out of a tank. Like you said...it all comes down to the right foot. The absolute best I've ever done by filling up and going directly to the freeway and setting it at a steady 70...is 224 miles...

Cool

Chuck,

On my trips from Orlando to Miami I have seen 360 out of a full tank... all the way to 8mpg when I did the DE at Sebring (gas pedal was screaming for mercy... ) . Around town it is more like 200miles out of the tank...

You can imagine my surprise when I first got it and only managed some 100 miles out of a full tank... wow. I thought something was wrong with the car until I started reading threads on the subject.

Jaime: How many mpg did that equate to when you go the 360 miles out of a tank of gas? You're running the K16 turbos right? I can't imagine that there's going to be that much difference between the K16 and the K24 unless your right foot is imbedded in the floor boards. The engines are pretty much the same except for the turbos, intercoolers, and possibly the wastegates.

I average about 200-220 miles per tank, but I have K24/26's (UMW2c) and drive heavy footed here and there. I remember reading that the OBC can be off a bit as the fuel consumption is actually measured by the rate of return back to the tank, can anyone elaborate on this? I think the only true way is take miles driven diveded by amount filled.

Around town I usually get around 14 or so...sometimes in the 13's....and on the road if it's mostly freeway driving....around 18....only when it's all freeway do I ever get into the 20's.

About ever second or third tank I take the mileage and number of gallons and run them on a calculator, and have to admit that the OBC is pretty much right on. I just can't seem to see getting 360 miles out of a tank of gas....whether it's a non-X50 or not. Once I got really good gas mileage, but the car was on the back of a flatbed tow truck enroute to the dealership!

Chuck,

Not sure on what the mpg was... I want to say 26.3mpg? I will be sure to document it for the next trip. Outside of the Fabspeed exhaust the car is stock. K16s, correct.

I have averaged 16.7 mpg in my '04 x50 over the last couple thousand combined town/hwy driving. My old '02 non-x50 averaged about 1mpg better for the same driving over a couple thousand miles.

Usually 7ish mpg on a normally aspirated 3.6/3.8 engine when on the track. I think Serota claimed about 5 with his GT2.

But it's funny that I also only get about 7 with the 1.3L engine in Radical!

I have been averaging 15 - 17 around town and 22-26 on the highway depending on my foot with an X-50.

In my GT700, I'm lucky if I can average double digit mileage.

And this is road driving only.

My 02 will easily deliver 26 mpg, IF I can stay around 65 mph. I average 19 in mixed fast highway, and suburban driving. While I don't track this car much, 6-8mpg is what I saw. If the car lacks in one area, it is fuel tank size. My first wish is for a 20 gallon tank, and my second is for first gear good to 50 mph. But, after 60,000 miles, I am perfectly happy with what I have. AS

My std X50 - 14 MPG for mixed driving, about 20 if mostly highway. About 7 - 8 MPG on the track
