michelin ps2 question
I've been on 6speed for several yrs, but this is my first post here. I'm due for 4 new tires for my 2003 996tt evoms stage 2. I have oem 18 wheels, which currently have michelin pilot sport ribs. I like these tires, but i'm thinking about going with the ps2's, which are now available in this size. Interestingly, the ps2's are not N rated for the fronts, but they are n3 for the rears. Probably, doesn't make much difference. How do you like the ps2's? Can you notice any difference between the ps2's and pilot sport ribs for those who have had both? How is the wear on the ps2's? If you go on the michelin web site, there are several different ps2 variants for the fronts. Which one is the correct one?

I've had Continental Sport Contact (original tire), Sport Ribs, Bridgestone SO-2, and PS-2 on both a C4S and my Turbo, all on the stock wheels. Hands down, the PS2 is best all round tire of the group. But they are getting expensive as the exchange rate plummets. I just paid Tire Rack $912 for 2 replacement rears tires. Regardless of which tire you pick, don't expect more than 10K miles on the Turbo at the rear. The fronts will last 25-30K.

I have been running the PS2 for a few years on stock 18s, 3-4 track days a year. I am very pleased with them. I have a 2002 with a 520HP. Rear wear quicker as expected. I have 3 track events on this set and was trying to scrub them last time out for no other reason then I want to try the Sport Cups. Bummer is they still have at least one more event left.

I've had both. The PS2 is rated slightly higher in virtually all performance ratings, but I still prefer the Pilot Sport Rib. My personal reasons are that I like the sidewall profile look better, I feel they are quieter and they are less prone to axle hop on quick starts. I went back to ribs after two sets of PS2's and remain totally pleased with my decision. I use them for street use only.

They are great. I prefer my wallet to be thick, so I switched to Sumitomo HTR Z III's. No regrets. Have used them at a DE with good results. We shall see how long they last...so far about equal in my hands to the PS2. Really.

Former Vendor
EBay. Seriously, 80% tread PS2s on EBay for under $80-$90 each.
Bought a set of 235/255 18s for my BMW for about $240 + $60 ship FOR ALL 4 TIRES.
$1100 of tires for $240 !

I've had the Ribs for over a year now and I have had to use them as "backups" to my MPSCs at track events... I've been extremely pleased with their performance, even in high negative camber settings... They track well, wear well, and stick like glue in the wet and dry. They're pricey, but in this case, I'm not sure you don't "get what you pay for".
When these are cooked off I'll try the Sumi HRT III, due to Jeff's rave reviews. Hope I don't downgrade in the process!

I have been very pleased with my last few sets of PS2s. Great in the dry and wet (which is key in Oregon). I have the 235/40 18 up front on OEM wheels and std 295 on rear. My last set of rears only lasted 8,000 miles but I had aggressive neg camber and have a medical disorder wherein my right foot depresses objects with greater force than intended.
