It's real simple... unless i could buy a 997 GT2/3 or a 997Turbo at an increadible price, i'd not buy ANY other 997 over a 996 Turbo.

It's that simple.

Post 996 interior vs 997 interior

Only because someone compared a Honda to a Porsche, IMO and many others
the 997 interior looks more like Japanese. ie flat door panels, like a 350Z, I also prefer the 996 dash and gauges over the 997. I thought the 997 interior would grow on me but, every time I return to my 996TT I like it better. Friends with
a GT2 & GT3's feel the same. Not an improvement... and I wanted it to be.

Porsche does not make a "DSG" the new Porsche double clutch is a PDK. I am a dyed in the wool manual guy but after spending a couple hours in a new 997 with the DFI motor and the PDK tranny its really amazing. That being said the real performance bargain is in the 996tt. The Tiptronic S that was replaced by the PDK is no where near as fun or good a trans so if you're looking 996 or 996 TT go for the manual IMO.

The GT1 origin engine; there are guys boosting this motor to over 700hp.

Drive the the car with even a std TT motor, you won't notice the interior. I had the same choice, there is no comparison once the boost kicks in, all the woosie thoughts will blow away!

Don't blame you. I too do not like the looks of the 996TT interior when compared with the 997TT interior... in my case I don't have the $$ to go the 997TT route so I keep happy by doing a few small changes to the car I have (CF bits, exterior color bits, replacing worn/scratched items, etc.)

Different strokes for different folks...I am not at all a fan of the 997 interior. It has way too many switches/buttons, I don't care at all for the steering wheel, the dash appears higher and thicker vertically than the 996, and there are way too many square corners and straight lines for my tastes.

Results may vary.

Dock I am opposite, I dont care for the 996 interior and I really like the 997. They make 107 different steering wheel variations, granted much of that is stitching and such but they have several different shapes and centers. But like you said different strokes....

Stitching options don't fix the over use of "aluminum look", and the out of proportion (huge) round center section. IMO it's just not "sports car" in appearance.

A more "sports car" looking steering wheel IMO...

These two pictures above also show the huge difference in switches/buttons between the two cars...It's obviously personal preference, but for me the fewer switches/buttons the better.
