Well said!!!

If you've followed Adam's comments....they're usually on point....now I'm sitting here routinely checking the discussion forum and waiting for the reply....

I remember when my dad bought a new 65 pontiac with auto transmission and I took it out for a date to be cool (with permission) and was slamming thru the gears using the shift lever....and something went BANG....well it was under warranty and was fixed, but I played the "Dunno what happened" card and got away with it....but that wasn't a $135K car either.

I imagine Adam's son doesn't get away with much does he? Damn it's tough when your dad is on top of things.

Well the car is fine, Thanks for all the kind words...NOT. I dont know why you guys are so up tight?, it aint your ****ing car! All i asked for is where i can find a replacement axle?, and all i get is adolescent attitude from who knows who? that has probably never touched a single thing on their 996 turbo. I cant imagine you 996 turbo owners doing to much your self. Have you even seen how small the front axles are? Theres a difference between just giving out good information compared to just being a complete *ick about it. Thanks goes out to sharky and a few others for giving me some good info and being cool not like these other babies. I just come to these forums for info not attitude

I guess we're tight because if you look at the number of posts from the various guys you'll see that most of us been there done that, and in some cases we express some reservations about how things are explained. That doesn't mean we're right all the time....but after a while, one develops a sense of curiosity or perhaps a bit of disbelief about how something went down. If we've offended you, I'm sorry, but you have to take into consideration that there have been a lot of newbies who post to this and other forums with lead-ins like " I have a friend who's car broke when......" and after a while, our radar lights up. If you were maligned and this isn't what happened, then as I said, my apologies....but the cynicism still exists and will continue to exist as certain scenarios unfold. If you go back and look at some of the previous posts...you'll see the famous response.... "I call BS"....which means that the author of the comment has thrown down the cyber gauntlet. This is a forum where opinions are expressed....some may not be fair....but they are opinons based upon how the reader inteprets the explanation. If the author is too unfair...he/she catches hell from the peer group. That didn't seem to occur in this instance.

Good to hear that "the car is fine".... (I won't ask who proclaimed this as "fine", perhaps the crack tuning shop that broke it to begin with? Or did you and a buddy slap it together and drive it around the block without incident, without grinding nor lights and proclaim it 'fine'? )

Report back in a few thousand miles.

Unfortunately, given the cryptic content of your posts- little data on how it was dynoed, what the dyno was (did it have a mechanical or electronic AWD link), and how it was diagnosed and fixed, this is really a useless data point for other members.... is this really a case of 'axle broke and no other damage', or does in conform to the more common 'diff damaged and axle broke' scenario most have seen? Was the front diff damaged, but didn't explode, and a new axle just fitted? Who knows. And certainly if this thing still has problems we can be certain you won't post that, right?

Glad you patched up your dad's car... too bad you gave nothing back to the community.

A

PS You don't really have a clue who you are talking to here, in terms of knowledge or skill.... not me, thats for sure- I'm just and enthusiast and I do all my own wrenching myself, to the extent I can... but to assume that all the participants here meet your preconceived idea of a 'rich cat Porsche owner' is erroneous to say the least.

awd,
Good luck with the repair. While the style of some posts may not meet your hopes, most of the advice is solid. I've been participating on this board for about 6 years (!!!), and the regulars are quite experienced.
You might accept that your request was odd, and I don't think I have heard of anybody here reporting the same event. I think most feel it would be hard to break an axle as an isolated component. It is even more odd to have a shop dyno the car and not disconnect the front driveline.
Good luck with the car. Personally, I would hold the shop responsible. If the front dif goes next, you will probably be forced to legal action (or just lick your wounds). But, you probably should be prepared for that outcome.
if on the otherhand, all the voices of doom are incorrect, then let us know. Maybe that previous owner just did one drag launch too many.
By the way, did the dyno confirm hp numbers suggesting mods? AS

Let me put it into another perspective for you...

Notice the front wheels off the ground? I did that (127mph @ 11.24 seconds) and oh, about 28 road course track days, plus 10K total street miles since buying my car 18 months ago... I haven't broken an axle...

Get it? It's a pretty BIG deal... And I'd be very worried about your front Diff... You might be "fine". But I'd bet it's got internal damage and it just hasn't started showing yet.

Doing work ourselves??? Are you serious?

Good luck, and welcome to Rennlist.

Mike

Maybe you could post some pics of your axle and car.....and maybe a VIN so we know to watch for it if it comes up for sale in the near future.
