While everyone knows that I enjoy building/CNC Hybrid turbochargers, building large K16 hybrids and K24 hybrids are a passion. For the last 6 weeks I have been on the dyno testing different fuel injector combinations and fuel system modifications. On top of that revising and tweaking my Race exhaust.
Quite a few weeks ago I started a thread about my new Stage 2 "C" K24/26 Zero clearance Hybrid turbochargers.
Please note that the turbocharger on the left is a "stock" K24, please notice the inlet of inducer compared to the larger K26 compressor housing. Most other machined K24 hybrids use the smaller more restrictive K24 compressor housing (K16's use the same housing). Anotherwords the larger compressor wheel is shoe-horned into the smaller housing forced to use the smaller intake. There IS a hit that one takes on performance, the static pressure is greater, slowing the spool up of the rotating assy.

The picture below shows the "force" for being able to spool quicker than a standard K24 stock or hybrid turbocharger, it is my new K24 Hyflow turbine wheel, which is actually larger than the stock K24 turbine wheel. It is the turbine wheel that is forced to rotate by exhaust gases. A efficient wheel will allow the turbine wheel to turn the shaft which is connected to the compressor wheel. If you can get the compressor wheel to build boost sooner. The result is less lag, and more torque sooner. While this turbocharger will not spool quicker than my K16 Hybrids, it does spool alot sooner than any K24's on the market, thus making power and boost sooner. Extensive machine work has been done to the turbine housing to fit the larger wheel and to aid in better flow.

Here is a dyno sheet on "pump" gas measured at the wheels. Please realize that these new turbochargers include my new HyFlow turbine wheel. Do your homework and cruise the internet for K24 dyno sheets and you can see where "normal" K24's spool up. This power level was acheived with my revised full mufflered "Race" exhaust, trimmed with 5" cats and mufflers. This dyno run was under load for greater than 16 seconds. (the graphed data run was 16.5 seconds in duration) 650HP can be reached at 7200RPM's. Fuel is Chevron west coast 92 octane.

Please realize that this car was done on a full Stage 3 tuning package. It has the upgraded plenum and throttle-body, plus the carbon fiber dual inlet intake.
The smaller dashed lines were of the back to back tests from the RUF K24 package. One can really see the torque difference.

These are K16 Hybrids in full Stage 3 Trim on Race gas.
You can see how much torque is being generated by 2000 RPM's vs the K24's..

My design goals were to build a Quick spooling K24 turbine wheel... That would rival a modded K16 hybrid for torque under the curve. With the larger turbine housing, I was able to focus more energy to a larger turbine wheel. With the pump gas file >>Torque is being limited. I have dyno sheets hitting higher numbers while still being run on pump gas. If you were to round the plot you can figure out the numbers generated. ROD safety starts to come into play at these levels. It becomes a situation where I ask, what is the safety factor.

It looks like the k16 hybrids on race fuel spool about 500 RPM sooner than the k24 hybrids on 92 octane (k16's hit 400 lb-ft at about 2700 RPM, while the k24's hit 400 lb-ft at about 3200 RPM).

It's not a apples to apples comparison with pump vs race gas.
Yes, the race gas plots do move slightly to the left, and alot higher numbers.
Dock if you can also add, stock K24/hybrids ala RUF 400ft lbs at 3800 RPM's

From the PM's and emails that I have received this morning. The biggest question that I have received is. "can you install the K24 HyFlow turbine wheel in my K24's? The answer is "Yes" I can!!

I'll have the 2C K24's installed in the very near future- will post my experiences shortly after I get them installed, broken in and tuned. I'm about as excited as when I initially bought the turbo ;-)
