Review my PPI results
I had a PPI done on a 2003 Turbo yesterday. The work was done by the folks at Kahlers in the SF East Bay area.
I received a verbal "the car is great" on the phone at which time I then authorized a compression test. When I asked about overrev information, the person said he didn't have that handy but would call me back with it. After the compression test was done I received a call indicating that the results were excellent at 185 on all cylinders but when I asked about the overrevs again he said that there were no issues at all on the report.
Their full report (17-page fax) is attached. There are minimal Range-2 ignitions (only 27, but generated recently) and from looking at the Range 1 ignitions it seems like the current owner likes to drive the car to redline (which based on the various threads I've read doesn't seem to be a problem.) When combined with the compression test results, I have no reason to believe that the engine was damaged.
The person at Kahlers said that this car is in excellent condition. But honestly, I am underwhelmed by their report. This being my first PPI that went to conclusion, I'm not sure what to have expected in terms of detail but for some reason I was expecting more. Most (99%) of the stuff on the report doesn't mean anything to me so I'm putting it out here for your feedback.
So unless one you guys sees something on the report that indicates impending doom, I'm flying out Thursday to pick this car up.

Loren over on RennTech is the guy who knows how to read all those seemingly irrelevant posts. He has the PIWIS and routinely reads peoples DME...I noticed that the PO seemed to have some trouble remembering to close the hood, engine compartment etc... and had a lot of alarm activations...but other than that, I didnt' see anything that really jumped out. Type II over revs are fine...low count...and a lot of cars have those low #'s...mine included.

I would've gone out to get the car today but I've got too many commitments this week. I'm going to get the car on Thursday! I'll be making the run back home (San Francisco to Phoenix run, appx 750 miles) on Friday.
The type 1 count (of 22758) IS much higher that what I've often seen posted by others and, for example, is double that of Jaime's car on an engine that has only 1/3 of the operating hours (603). If my understanding and calculations are correct, that translates into about 67 seconds of overrev time. So if you hit the rev limiter once a month for 5 years straight does that seem bad?

From the report it sounds like the car was tracked...
The hood and trunk alarms are very common... We pop them driving up to tech inspection and get the alarms... Both to and from the inspection if they aren't closed after inspection and before you go back to your pit.
The over-revs... Don't track your car if you don't want those numbers to rise by a fair amount... Matching revs, Heel Toeing, winding out that gear getting around a worthy adversary... it happens on track. As long as the compression test checks out and there is no oil or coolant issue, buy it.

C'mon Adam....what did you see? What's your assessment? Since I can't decipher all that data, I would be interested in reading about what you saw and what conclusions you arrived at.
That's probably why there were so many downloads to the pdf file...folks like me curious about what the PPI printouts showed....but unable to figure out what all that seemingly extraneous data meant. Porsche records it for a good reason, so someone who's good at interpreting it could give us all a lesson in reading the printouts.
