Default 996 TT fuel tank Vs 996 GT3 MK2 fuel tank

I have just noticed on www.autocar.co.uk that:
the 996 TT has a 64 liter fuel tank
and the 996 GT3 MK2 has a 89 liters fuel tank

that is 39% more!!!

for cars that have similar fuel consumption....
996 TT test average 19.6 Mpg
996 GT3 tesr average 20.2 Mpg

anybody can say why???

small fuel tanks mens more stops for refueling...i.e lower average speeds on long trips....

harris

p.s. one (may be false) reason is that i bigger fuel tank would mean smaller usable volume at the front, as well as more wieght added at the front while driving...does this make sense??

When the 996TT came out that was the most documented complaint... spirited driving meant that you had to stop every 100 miles for a refill...

Not sure if the awd has anything to do with the size of the tank. Would have been nice for sure to have more fuel capacity...

The 996TT tank is smaller due to the diff stuffed under the tank, with 2 CV joints going to each front wheel. As it stands the TT tank also has 3 fuel pumps to get the fuel back to the engine.

GT3 doesn't have 3 pumps?

Are you trying to put a GT3 tank in your car?

Because of the 4 wheels drive system the front sheet metal is different. There is less space for a tank vs the GT2 or GT3. You can remove your 4wd system and weld in the new panels. ala GT2 GT3 to gain some more space for a larger tank.

Back in the 'old' days, this was also done.
You could get a 92L tank in your 964 (I have one in my Euro Cup) and IIRC this was also available in the 993 as well.
As previously mentioned, AWD does tend to make things 'complicated' in the front.

I can't remember how many miles exactly... but it was during my first (and only one so far... can't wait for the next one) DE (Driver's Education) event at Sebring.

On my one track day I reset my computer to see what the MPG would be and to my surprise it was less than 6 MPG. YIKES!!!!

In stark contrast when I drove my car home after purchasing I got around 27 MPG average. So anything in that range is possible.
