Default So, who's flash for the 996 TT is best?

Looking at REVO, APR etc. and just wondering what you guys think.

Wouldn't call it "easy". Plenty of great tuners out there.

My vote is for protomotive......however, I'm biased.

Yup, $1,295.00 OBD2 performance flash.. 996TT, GT2, X50. I don't need your car, I don't need your ECU, and a Laptop is NOT required.

I hate to "re-ask" this question as I know it's been asked/answered before, but
what will this do for an otherwise stock 996tt....ie: how much more hp?

And same question for a 996 X50?

Everybody will tell you that the flash they run is the best.
Just depends on what your long term objectives are.
If you want to build a 'monster' in different steps, both UMW and Protomotive may be your best long-term partners.
If you want to go for a basic flash + filter + diverter valves and otherwise keep the car close to stock, I don't think there's a lot of 'bad' companies out there.
Even Upsolute might be OK for you (best bang for the buck). I personally went with FVD and am also very happy. Really liked the web based solution + the ability to flash back to normal (you get the Performance and the original file).
UMW scared me since even their basic flash 'can' tear up your clutch. Some people seem to interpret this as abundant power, but it's nothing I am after. But then again, different people have different objectives and Kevin (UMW) delivers great work and customer service.

Anyway - my advice would be to figure out what you want (basic solution versus monster) and make a decision based upon that.
Read up a lot. There's a lot of information on 6speed.

On my wifes '02 996TT I dyno'd 365 rear wheels and 410 ft lbs. After the flash it dyno'd 435HP and 500 ft lbs.. Pump gas. If you have a marginal clutch, and tend to slip the pedal, my flash will knock out your clutch. A local customer this weekend has won the shortest amount of "time"... From leaving me, and not even reaching the 405.. 10 to 15 minutes Max... However, if you have a sound clutch you can get some miles out of your clutch..

If someone like Yves that is concerned about the clutch, we should have talked about it, versus losing the sale. I could have back off the torque.. I can provide multiple programs to limit boost, and or torque (this would come at additional $$$) on the flip side I can provide race gas files, and modified files for the wife or girlfriend.

As an aside to the issue of the clutch....I don't see how most of the lower stage tunes would contribute to clutch failure unless you either ride the clutch, are routinely launching; or it was marginal to begin with. Granted, the extra power might hasten the demise of a clutch that was ready for CPR....but for most of the lower stage tunes, I haven't heard too much about blown clutches. I think that any tuner who's up front will recommend you beef up your clutch...I mean doesn't it make sense to consider that if you're deliberately putting additonal power to the train? To be on the safe side, were I a tuner, I'd recommend you upgrade your clutch just to be able to CYA if the additonal power did in fact eventually result in a blown clutch. I could at least tell you that I made the suggestion. Power that Porsche didn't build into it in the first place? Even tho Porsche is known for engineering in extra margins, I don't think they anticipated a stock 996TT clutch routinely handling 550-600...even though it might for a while depending upon your driving habits.

I have Kevin's tune and no clutch problems. I do DE's but never burn outs.

How do you get your software on the car? Mine is STILL getting fixed but I was thining of oing with your solution once it is back.

The car has the hybrids and the Fabspeed loud.

Here's another "perspective"...

I had Kevin's tune (not his intro tune, but the full monty) installed and then killed the clutch...This after using an Upsolute tune with the same K16/K24 setup and never had an issue with clutch slip. So after the clutch lets go, I took the car to a local "GIAC GOLD STANDARD" tuner and he said "All you need is the Sachs 999 and GT2clutch w/the 964RS LWFW!

So we install it... It slips... It slips from the first laps the first day on a very important track weekend, AFTER putting 500 easy miles on the car... Take it back to the tuner and he puts TWO MORE clutches in it, killing them, before I step in and say DO WHAT KEVIN RECOMMENDS!!!

I go to pick up the car, and the tuner says that this is the fastest street car he's driven and that obviously UMW has a tune that's a step above what he's used to...

Although I do agree that everyone will tell you their tune is the best, I've had another tune, and it wasn't the best... I've had a GIAC tuner experience Kevin's tune, and it SOLD HIM on how much "better" the UMW tune is...

...Enough said!
