I think the time has come
I hope the guys on the 993 board don't hang me....but I have sold my 993 2S.
I have owned a Turbo 3.6 and a 930 and just loved the power and battle.
Anyway, I hear a lot of good things about the 996TT, especially from the service guys.
I love the feel of the 993 and like the aircooled thing but has anyone gone from a NA 993 to a 996TT that has any advise?
They are at silly prices here now, where as a year ago they were way out of my league. I'm sure they will not stay this cheap for ever.
I know they are lightening fast, but do they feel every bit a Porsche?
You know what I mean, hard ride, rattles and so on. The last thing I want is a Lexus ride.
The car I am looking at is a 2002 with the usuall fruit, but very low K's, and a manual.
Thanks

I have owned a few Porsches in my time, all of them 911s of one sort or another (4 prior to my 996 to be precise, all air cooled and two of them 993s). I swore I would never buy water cooled.... but then I drove a 996TT and I was sold. There is no turning back.
The 996 is just so much newer in every way compared to the 993. Dont get me wrong, I still own a 993C4s (and that is my second 993), as well, but my car of choice is the 996TT. And looks wise, all you need to do is have a look at some of the stuff that can be done to a 996tt (Techart is my all time favourite bodykit at the moment). I assure you, after a while, the upright windscreen of the 993 feels a bit silly...
A NA996 wasnt for me. But a 996TT is absolutely divine.... do it. And for the air cooled snobbery... frankly, who cares....

I had a '95 993C2. Bought the 996TT with 12,000 miles on it and never looked back. As far as technology goes, there is no comparison. As far as the interior and AC goes, there is no comparison. As far as performance, there is no comparison. Let the 993 guys stay in your rear view mirror.

I have to agree with above comments. My previous car was a 98 C2S and I loved that car, BUT once you get into the TT there is just no comparison. The 996 just does everything better. The only area I have a problem with is the overall look. I still love the shape of the 993 but the 996 has grown on me over time.

I will chime in as well and agree with everyone above. Had a 993c4 and a 930 as well in the stable. After owning the 996tt, well, the other cars were just sitting and I was driving the tt all the time. So, I sold the 993 and the 930 to let someone else enjoy them, as I am having a ball with the tt. It does everything better, smoother, with less drama, less noise, less effort. The air cooled cars are great, they are raw compared to the the newer cars. That is what makes them so desirable to so many people. I like raw, but I love the effortless, seamless power of the new tt. I am not going back, and if I do it will only be for nostalgia, but when it is time to drive and drive hard, I am in the tt with a big old smile on my face.

Crikey, those comments just about say it all. I think a lot of the hesitation is the nostelgia, but after having a 930 and 965T I think I am just about over it.
I know it will be fun to have the wife actaully want to come with me.
So, I know how good they are, and I will test drive some when the deals completed, but do they still feel like you are in a real sports car?
Bumps and rattles etc....I would hate a boring drive with no feel.
I can't get that rush of the 965 out of my system either! Thats a blast and I really miss it.
The 993's are not powerfull, but they are fun. So fun and power is what I really want...........lots of power.
Keeps the Greens happy too

993man,
I recently took a trip to southern california (about 300 miles from me). My wife would never have agreed to go in my 993. In the 996 the ride is bumpy but smooth enough so she didn't complain. Not to mention it was 113 degrees outside and we were nice and cool inside our air conditioned ride. Best pasrt is that the car just cruised easily at 95 MPH and when you needed to pass you barely needed to be conscious to blast to 120. My 993 NEVER would have made that trip so enjoyable. Hell it wouldn't have made it through the heat AND deliver A/C at the same time. It would have been one or the other.

I miss my 95 993 "oil smell" only. And the hips. Otherwise, the 996TT is better. Now, I had to put in an aftermarket stereo dvd nav when the OEM unit died on me....but that got me ipod integration, nav, phone integration with bluetooth, etc.
To get lots and lots of power out of a car....1.0bar on a 996tt is amazing.
Anyway, much better car. The only newer thing I really want is the PDK in the newest cars.....other than that, it is amazing. PPI by a place that knows 996TT's is a must....
It was a good move, but I sometimes miss my 993 and you will too. That is not a bad thing.

There is a much different model regarding vehicle production/depreciation under the Dr. W regime.

Thanks for all the great replies. I'm going to test a couple when my deal in finished, which is 3 weeks time. That is unless I am the sucker of some internet fraud! I'm not though, but I am always cautious until the moneys in the bank.
I will have a PPI even though the cars at a main dealer for Pcars. I have one in mind, silver, black 50000km's and a bit of carbon. Looks like a stunner, and the price is getting better every time we talk.
Thanks again and I will keep you guys posted.
Added some pictures of the possible next car.
