Default 2001 996TT 58k miles. How much?

Seller will pay $1000 for anyone that can find a buyer at $50k. Is $49k a good deal?

I guess tiptronic is the killer

He's had that car advertised for 4 months now. It has always been the same story; gotta sell this weekend; picking up a newer one.
I offered him $45K (sight unseen) and never got a reply. Pretty much, the tiptronic kills it for me.

If it's in good condition, I'd say yes - decent deal. Turbos I've seen in the 40s have ranged from very bad (that I wouldn't bother with) to nice ones in the upper 40s. I've yet to see a Turbo in low to low to mid $40Ks that I would buy myself ...

You emailed him an offer, sight unseen? Had you spoken with him? Or your first contact was "I'll give you $45k"?

If I received that offer, in that manner, I'd probably blow it off as well. Not that it is low, just that it isn't serious. Who buys are car without speaking, seeing, etc?

Personally, I want my buyer to be engaged- likewise if I am a buyer I want a seller who is on the phone, arranging, talking, etc.

I am in the market for a 996 tt for a few months now. I met this seller and test drove the vehicle four weeks ago. The first thing I have noticed was some "minor" oil leakages under the engine block. I was not sure whether the oil was from the transmission or engine; the crankcase bottom was not wet, but moist to touch. There were minor curb rash on the rear wheels. The vehicle is mostly original/stock and carries a PCA sticker from previous owner on the windshield. The engine did not produce puff of smoke like some others I have seen when it first fired up. The vehicle ran fine on the road without any pull or push, and the tiptronic worked fine. After test driving, I left the engine at idle and have noticed some minor ticking noise (noisy valves?) from the left engine side (driver side). The body panels/paint looked original and free from any major scratch or dent. The vehicle is in Santa Clara. I recall the seller was asking for as low as $45K a couple of weeks ago. He then changed the ad and offered between $49K-52K, depending on the others on the market. He has the ad all over the place from CA to FL. I did not pursue much further as I was going to see a few others first and preferred a 6-speed. If there is a fix readily available in the Bay Area on the transmission leak, I may contact him to discuss further.

You are absolutely correct. I'll fess and would probably agree with you. However, I don't want to waste anyone's time if my offer is out of reason. Hence, I tell them my ballpark first.

Perfect rare OEM factory color combo, the exterior has two shades to it, looks blue at times as well as black at times

What is that?

The guy should have taken my offer.

As of today, he is now advertising it for $45K.

I am glad I logged onto this site and 6speed. I've learned so much. Especially with the importance
of 2nd gear pop-out, RMS, over-revs, ECU dumps, and the significance of a PPI.

When I started my shopping, all I would do is check the frame, take it to a regular joe mechanic and do Carfax.
Now, I know when to run away from a deal that looks just way too good.

RMS issues are VERY rare on the M64/GT1 derived lump in the back of this car; especially when compared to the POS M96/M97 wet sump engine.
