Many years ago I knew a guy that worked at the Ford factory when they made 427 Fairlanes. One day some guys were screwing around and a new off the line 427 Fairlane got basically totalled. What happened next... the guys pulled fenders and whatever else it needed off the line, patched it up good as new. And away it went to it's new owner. So you never know...
