Default I just finished installing PSS9

All im going to say is the car should have came like this from the factory. Here are a couple of pictures of the install in progress. More to follow as soon as i can take it out of the garage when the rain stops so i can take decent pictures outside.

Question

Is it really necessary to remove everything just to install the new struts?

For AWD, yes. For C2, no.

I think it can be done without the complete removal.

No it is not necessary to remove the carrier. I responded at 6speed, but will here for those guys that don't go over there. You can leave the axle/caliper/rotor attached, push down the control arm far enough to lift the carrier off the lower ball joint. Move the carrier forward of the control arm, this will give you enough room to bring the top of the strut downward and to the rear and out clearing the fender. From there you can pull the strut straight out of the carrier. Installation is opposite of removal.

Edit: It is a big help to have 2 sets of hands when doing this, one to push down on the control arm, the other to maneuver the carrier. I do it by myself by inserting the prybar on the control arm, hooking my leg over it and pushing down the control arm with the back of my leg, while moving the carrier around with the two free hands.

Yes but you risk hitting your strut against the fender and plus its only 1 nut holding the carrier to the axle. It takes 1 mintue to take off with an impact gun. 1 extra minute can save alot of $$ and can be done with 1 person easily. No means putting you down APorscheDoc. Just looking at things from a different view.

There isnt anything wrong with being over protective. If you want a really good fender tape to use when pulling bumpers etc, Wurth makes a red fiber tape that is probably about as thick as duct tape but less sticky, and made to stick on body panels without causing any damage. The thick tape provides a lot of protection.

Might be a good time to check the front wheel bearings while you have everything apart.

The ride height is perfect, and the car looks very nice!
