Question Rear jack point on 996tt

I was advised to use the cross member in front of the rear sway bar as a jack point for lifting the rear of the 996tt. Is this a save way to lift the 996tt?

I was told to jake it up on the "engine block"... So who knows... There are jacking points under the lower rockers. I use those...

Towards the rear of the engine case there is a support mount that is a nice place to jack. However if you have a deep dish jack plate, you risk gouging the case half. Be careful.. A new engine case is worth about $4300.00

lift under the engine case but have a 2x4 (2 feet long) run longitudinally under the split in the
engine case (runs the long way, front to back on the car). this will "cushion" the jack and spread
the forces out.

I put a small piece of wood on the jack and use the same point, but I never keep it up there on the one jack, I use jack stands once I get it up there which is what should be done. Just get it up and put it on the stands.

If you have aftermarket diverter valves, you may run into issues... I'll report more after I remove mine tomorrow to inspect.

Is there any problem with using the crossmember in front of the rollbar?

Are you able to get under that far?........the point Woodster uses is common......usually just to get some clearance to get other jacks or jack stands on the side points......& depends on how low your car is, whether you have that issue. In the shop they need to do that just to get my car on the hoist.
Anyway....side points are best IMO.

I have seen the shop jack my cars up by the engine case and always wonder if that is a good thing. I mean you have a 3,000 pound car resting on the engine case. I can't see that being good, but they all do it. Seems to me this could be a cause of rear main seal damage.

You can get to the rear engine case support by driving over a 2 X 12 X 24 " A good floor jack will reach and clear your bumper and exhaust..

I jacked mine up under the rear engine case yesterday and the jack didn't go high enough to get jack stands under the jack points by the rocker panels. Guess I need to buy a taller floor jack.

When I lift on the side jack pads I'm always nervous it's going to slip and dent the rocker panel. I have to back the rear tires onto some 2" thick boards to get the jack under the front crossmember. Somehow jacking on the engine case just seems wrong.

When you jack your car up, check the position of the back diverter valve and see if it hits the rear windo sill area... Mine touches it and makes me wonder if Im putting undue stress on the Fpipe assembly when jacking it up from the engine case... You can watch and see that the motor is being lifted up as you jack, just look at your exhaust tips...
