Default How Low will the 996TT Go?

With increasing pricing pressure from the older 993's and newer 997's, will we ever see the price finally level out?

Depends on how long the 996 NA goes, I think... I could see a 996TT being $35k before much longer (2-3 years?), given >35k miles.

No way.........The '99-'00 NA cars have rapidly decreased the rate of depreciation at the $30k mark. I think the 996TT will stay in the $40s for the next 5 years regardless of miles, except those extreme cases of averages greater than 10k per year.

Geez, are the TT prices really that low? Am I looking in all the wrong places?

I would be interested to find a TT with less than 10K mi/year that's at $40K right now.... the ones less than $50K all have about 15-20K miles/year on them!

You guys are scaring me. I just sold an NSX that I had for 8 years and it lost $0 in value. Is it still too early to buy a 996tt?

If you want to lose $0, yes. If you don't mind losing $20k, no.

How low do you really think the Turbo 996 will go, and how many years to reach it?

The current going prices are all around $50000 to @60000 for a 2001 to 2002 TT with average miles (15K/year).

Do you really think in 2008 or 2009 the TT will be going for $30000 to $40000? What will then be the prices for the 996 Carrera: $15-20000?

I agree. That will probably be the bottom.

996 NA cars are below $30k. Yes, the rate of depreciation has slowed, but it didn't stop. I speak as someone who sold a <10k/yr car, CPO, with a fresh engine, earlier this year for noticeably under $30k. Granted, I could have held out for closer to $30k, but it was a good car with all records, and, more importantly, I am not basing my reasoning on this one sale. I followed the market pretty closely for about two years, and even still keep an eye on it. The asking prices for 3.4L cabriolets are $35k, and I have no doubt the owners are factoring in some negotiating slack. There's a '99 for sale on Rennlist with an asking price in the $29k. Granted, the 99s take a big hit even over the 2000s, but a <$30k asking price is not that difficult to fathom.

The TT cars I figure will go for roughly double that, due to supply and demand, and the cost of parts. Someone made the point that when you look at the price of a replacement engine, tranny, and some of the other items, you can part a car out for over $30k. Between that, the floor on NA cars, and the current market, here's how I see things (obviously my view is warped a certain way, but no one is exact):

Today:
'01-02 Turbo low to moderate miles = $55-60k
'01-02 Turbo high miles = $45-55k (look at some of the eBay cars, the ****ty ones are closer to 45k, but there are ones that look good but have a lot of miles for $50k)

While a lot of our cars would need to stack a lot of miles on to get near the mileage of those 45-50k cars, time will also play a factor. An '01-'02 car in two or three years will have more mileage, even if it's not as insane as some of the $45k cars are now. It will be older, and 997TT prices will have started pushing the '04 and later cars down.

Thus, let's say it's Jan 2010, about 2.5 years from now:
'01-02 Turbo low to moderate miles = $45k
'01-02 Turbo higher miles = $35k (you'll want to pay the $10k premium...)

That $35k may be sound a bit pessimistic, but if they're already $45k and the odometer keeps ticking.. Consider by 2010, the in-service date on the first US 996TTs will be approaching the decade mark.

Thus, you can probably get a good car now for $55k, drive it a lot and lose $20k. Or, you can get a low or moderate mileage car in great shape for $60-65k, put moderate mileage on it and lose $15-20k in 2.5 years.

But what is it they say? Never try to predict anything, especially the future?

THat's what I am thinking. I am not one to wait until things bottom out, but a few years I happily wait because the first few are the years when the prices just plummet after the new cars cease to be new.

So, if I see a nice 2002+ around $55K now I would not wait until a couple of yrs just because the price might drop further.... Think of how many beautiful days and miles you'll miss out on the car you eventually get in 2010!! Why not get it now??

The used value of a 996TT is dependent on what happens to the 997TT. If used 997TT hold value well, then so will 996TT. The bigger question is what will the 998TT do when it comes out. If smog and greenhouse gas regulations continue to become more restrictive, we may be in the middle of the golden age of horsepower. The current regulatory environment reminds me of 1970, the zenith in the previous golden age of horsepower. By 1975 we saw 5.0 liter V8 drop from 300hp to barely 150hp. The current 997TT hp could drop as much as 50% if new greenhouse gas laws are put into effect. Ten years from now 420-450 stock HP in a 996TT is going to look like bargain compared to new cars.

Do you guys see a similar decline for the 993tt or will they hold steady? I've always loved the look of the 993, hated the look of the 996, but the current prices make the 996 hard to ignore.

if the 996TT is $35k in 2 years, I'll buy 2 of them thanks

I doubt it will go that low.. I'd say 40-50s for most good examples.

The modability is also what makes it in demand now.. demand is growing guys as the value has now made it affordable to many people..

i think they will mostly end up being track cars, andteh early cars will supply the later cars for parts.
