What are Type II over revs?

so I re-read the old thread here
https://rennlist.com/forums/showthre...t=ignition+rev
and here is the info that should be correct:
each rev in a 6-cylinder engine = 3 ignition firings.
So a 932 ignition firing equals 311 revs.
311 revolutions in over-rev would equal about 2.3 seconds of actual over rev time, for whatever that's worth for illustrations purpose.
That would seem like it was over-rev'd once. How much damage that equals....anyone?

IMO, you can't say. An overrev could be just over the threshold. My car has a type 2 count of 9, which means (I think) the previous owner probably caught 3rd instead of 5th, or 2nd instead of 4th, but realized his mistake very quickly after letting the clutch out.
But if the engine got *really* zinged, like downshifting to 2nd at 100 mph, a single transgression could stretch a rod, or a rod bolt, or float the valves so bad they hit a piston.
Assuming the type 2 count is ignition firing events above the threshold, 932 is a lot! 2.3 seconds at what, 7000 rpm, is a lot of time up there! Especially if they were all caused by engaging the clutch while in the wrong gear.

Another reason to be wary on this is the recorded type 2 was only about 30 hrs ago. If it was hundreds of hours earlier you could have more confidence. Still get the leak down and use these as a negotiation point if it seems OK.

Be nice to know exactly what the threshold is for type 2.
Now I think they have 6 types.
I woudn't be worried with just 9 type 2's . . . . especially if they happened a long time ago.
I think 900+ is just too many unless there was big discount on car which there's not.
Thanks for the input.
