I can certainly understand that lower RPM is better for the moving parts, but perhaps too low an RPM can cause other problems?

Interested to know your thoughts as you are the heavy machinery engineer....
I thought only the air cooled engines had this issue, perhaps by uneven cooling.

I think if we can find the torque curve we can use that to figure out the best RPM per gear or when to shift.

I know I'll be shifting so that when the next gear is engaged it doesn't drop below 2500 RPM or with respect to that torque curve.

Hey guys,

I do in fact have 142,000+ miles on my bone stock 2003 X50 (minus GT-3 Cup front brake ducts). The car runs like a champ and has been VERY reliable. I am a fanatic about changing the oil every 5000 miles and it shows - in fact it's in now for a new water pump and the 25 year veteran mechanic was amazed at how well the car is doing, in fact he was showing me that the car has zero, I mean zero leaks anywhere on it. While is was at the shop some of the sales folks brought a potential customer out to show them a car that has been tracked and driven hard and showed them in fact they do hold up.

I cannot recommend the car enough and also recommend you buy it and drive the hell out of it - the more it's driven the better they are IMHO.

Good luck!! T2

Porsche estimates the life of the car at 250,000 miles. I think the Lambo tune-ups may be more than 3 K. I think you will leave over 2 grand at the dealer every 30,000 miles for our major service intervals. AS

Local 30,000 service 400$.

Oil, filters (pollen, oil, air), plugs, inspections of other items.....cost goes up for fixes.

Pierre,

Nice work - I should hit the 157,000 mile mark today at some point. Do you happen to travel back to the states at all?? Be interesting to meet you sometime. T2

@T2: impressive mileage too! No, I haven't been in the US for quite a while now. BTW, do we know eachother? Are you T2 like in "Tim & Ted"???... Would be quite funny to meet here again!

@jb: I have a Sportec stage 3 upgrade: 542 HP and 788 Nm, redline at 7'200 instead of 6'750, etc. BTW, I now have 60'000 km with this setup, and it's still working fantastically good.

agree with everythign you said, but the part about utomatics...I would have thought that manuals tend to have the clutch cost issue which doesn't affect the Tips ...which as far as I am aware, are a very durable MB unit.

Interested to hear your feedback.

Totally agree...in relation to the 996tt(now 50K km) , but also my C36 AMG that I put over 200K km..driven daily and everywhere..pretty hard, but fanatical about oil changes and service.

So, is that with stock internals on your upgrade...can the stock engine "handle" 7200 rpm?

Thanks!

Congrats on enjoying your car as much as you do.
I fell in love with the Porsche tt(993 at the time) when I saw a silver one in Zurich in 95.Must be great driving that thing across the Alps.

What makes up the sportec stage 3?
