My understanding of the "limit" setting is that you set it at XXX speed and it gives you a warning "bong" when you exceed that limit. I don't think it physically limits the speed but rather is a reminder that you have gone over the limit set.

Could be....in fact now that you say so, ........... you are right. I just checked my Owners Manual and there is nothing about a valet mode or other speed limiter (besides cruse control). For my '02 MY anyway.

I can confirm from my '03 manual that limit merely sounds a warning when you have exceeded the set "limit" speed.

This was covered in the second response. There is no ECU mod built into the Porsche that changes the program. This is only accomplished with aftermarket flashes.

The "limit" feature is still useful. I set mine to remind me at 85mph, which is the point when the CHP start to lose their sense of humor...

Wish I had that extra leeway. Got nabbed by a friendly CHP in Norcal at 83 (was actually going a wee bit faster) on my way home with my new to me TT a couple months ago. Had it all of 6 hours and already a ticket. That's got to be some kind of record

Funny thing is that Kevin (UMW) got zapped a few days later in the same area bringing his new TT home

Yeah but mine cost a little more, and was alot faster.. Ouch..

Edit, my ticket cost more because I was driving faster.. Thank God for traffic school....

OT (but I just have to ask): Kevin -- What does the guy who owns UMW do the the new 996tt he's just bought for his wife? ECU flash is a given, but what else?

I thought the "limit" feature was just a speed warning, nothing more. Hmmmmm.
