Default STEERING MOAN

Hi guys

It may be coincidental with the snap of cold weather we are having in Southern California but suddenly I am getting this moaning/scraping sound when I turn my steering wheel. It seems to go away once the car is warmed up. Any ideas?

Thanks

Gary

I have the same on mine.......seems to be coming from the steering column. Possibly from the slip ring for the horn/air bag.

Has anyone solved this one??

Thanks,
MK

I had fairly similar sounding noises to the original poster coming off my 996C4S (when the car was cold), the local Porsche service just topped off the power steering oil reservoir and the sound was gone.

The thing is is, the power steering pump is at the rear, so the noise should also be coming from the rear if this is the problem for you two.
