I understand that reassembly is done with the rods already on the crank and each cylinder housing is then lowered onto the pistons. Is that the way you do it? It sounds like a pretty tedious process and I'm hoping to hear that there is another method.

that's exactly the reverse order of the dissasembly procedure.

Haha. You are joking, right? It's not as simple as that. Pulling the cylinder housing off takes a few seconds. Getting each piston back into the cylinders with rings intact is not so simple. It's not like dropping the pistons into a V-8 or inline engine one at a time. The rods and pistons are already on the crank, the cylinder housing is lowered onto the pistons which are at different levels, the rings are trying to pop out, the housing is trying to tilt and you need to keep it level, etc. I have not done it but from what I understand it takes a few attempts before you get it right unless you have a lot of experience doing it. Kevin please chime in and let me know if it is as tedious as other builders would have me believe.

Re-assembly has the rods being installed thru the spigot bores onto the crankshaft. The outside pistons are loaded into the liners to allow the wrist pins to be slid in from the center.. The tricky parts is installing the wrist pin circlips.. It's a bummer if you lose one in the engine case...

It does take 3 hands and patients.. Not for the faint at heart..

Kevin: why are you dissasembling this engine with only 8kmiles? are you prepping it for some up-grades that require changing the rods...

I just noticed this thread was from 01/07. What is the current status or tune of the car?

How long does it take you to replace rods and build back up?

I won't do it by book time.. It is done by the job/project.

Oak this project is long gone.

If it is your first time to do it and you don't have help from someone experienced, multiply the shop book time by at least 5. Seriously.
