Kevin. What's with the ****e cooked on top of this piston. Is this normal?

Carbon from the combustion process.

Alex, no bent rods.. A little preventative measure before dialing it up..

I don't have an "S" shaped rods to show you in this build..

Mike, I had to go to see my tech and pick up my heads to send them back to Kevin and I saw my engine in this state yesterday and my pistons looked exactly like that.. Kevin

It is fricking COLD hear.

I could hear the Lake freezing (cracking every few minutes) last night all night,

our lake has abut 8" of ice on it now.

With some spare time, here are some pictures with the pistons taken off the rods.



The picture shows the rods and rod bolt/nuts that are to be removed. I use rubber-bands to keep the rods up to prevent case damage.



Once the rod nuts are removed, the upper rod half is pulled out of the case/spigot. I use a magnet to roll the lower rod half/cap. Usually the bearing will stay in the cap.





The bearing journal is exposed. It is in great shape..

call me dumb! I would have never thought you could change rods without
cracking the case! Is that done usually for other motors too?
