Tom,

I like to shift around 6,900 -7,100 RPM's, but I am not certain what is optimum for max acceleration. I have my S100 set at 100 RPM increments with the 1st light at 6,600, so when I see the 1st light - if I shift immediately, I am usually another 3-400 RPMs by the time I actually shift (in 1st gear - other gears are not so quick and you can actually gauge the RPM's by the lights and shift knowing the RPM).

DMaffo was shifting at about 6,000 RPM's on his record setting 10 second 1/4 mile runs. He tried 6,900 RPM speed shifts and could only achieve 11.3's. Then he shifted like you or I (quickly letting off the gas between shifts) and ran 11.4 - 11.5's (not sure of RPM's though). He claims faster acceleration with a short shift and keeping the turbos under load...I plan to experiment with this next season and see how it works. So knowing this, I don't think you are hurting your times if you shift a little lower...at least with the proto package, as that is what he is using. Yes, I set mine a little lower for advance warning in 1st gear, as it goes by so quickly. I like to see the shift completed before the red light, which indicates a shift with no rev limiter interference. The red line is increased with Proto software, unless you specify otherwise.

Doesn't the rev limiter look at actual engine rpm, instead of tach rpm?

Dock,

Yes, the shift light takes the RPM from the ECU. The tach needle lags a little behind in 1st gear making the 1-2 shift a guess, but the shift light is right on and shows real time RPM's, which removes the guesswork...

Nope, 3 wires, tach, GND and ignition.
All the manuals (install, user guide, etc) are on their website.

BTW, it also measures battery voltage.....it is a very versatile little piece of work.

ltc, could it be you may have an older unit? here's the response I got back from them regarding the on/off switch. I went ahead and ordered the unit, curious as to how it will work out. thank you for the info.

On/Off..Yes there is! There are two buttons on the front of the unit. If theengine is running, just increase the RPM above 2,200rpm and press eitherbutton. That will toggle the display on/off - quite handy. It's theonly thing the buttons allow you to do while the RPM is above thispoint. Alternatively, you can also press the down button to scrollthrough the display modes to get last one, off mode. Cheers,Tonywww.ecliptech.com.au

My apologies, I misunderstood.
I thought you meant an 'on/off' switch like a radar detector, which if left on might drain a battery.
This unit does not have a switch like that, it will simply turn on the display if you choose to. My unit is a little over 3 months old.
