I am a car dealer and have seen the car at Manheim Auto Auction. The car has been up for sale at every auction for like 4 months. This dealer finally bought it. I would check the car out top to bottom. From what I remember its not a bad car, just every dealer in the country is afraid of it.

When I frequented dealer auctions (I were one for 10 years), it was amazing to me of the thousands that would come through, there was always a group of "misfit toys" that would re-appear, like a little gang of unwanteds that went from auction to auction.
I now see that in collector cars too. The trucking companies love em I'm sure! Personally, I think the somewhat off-beat colors do well when a car gets some collectibility behind it (a few years away for our 996tt) so the Lambo Orange will probably wear well as the years go on. Sorry to say my silver car might illiicit only a yawn or two, though I love it.

Oh man, put some black rims on there, and that would be awesome! If it has survived that many auctions, there probably is something wrong with it, but man that one of my favorite colors....but i am weird as well......

Adams- I personally like the color, but coming from a dealer stand point there is only a small percentage of buyers around that would commit to such a color. Dealers like to turn their inventory over asap, a car like this would need good marketing to get it out there to the public, and would most likely take longer to sell. I myself like individual/rare colors, as for a collectible cars it can be a good thing or a bad thing (darker greens were the "in" color on mundane cars in the early 90's, now most people shy away from the color, but who knows it might come back). A car that is collectible is most of the time a car that is rare to begin with, no matter what color. A lot of dealers do tend to forget that "there is an *** for every seat" ... they managed to seld Pontiac Aztecs. As for the Manheim price quote Todd that is confidential information.... cheap huh.

BEWARE!!
<--- this is a paul herman nightmare.
- Flawless interior 'like new' - ended up being an airbrushed touchup - overspray galore.
- No damage / body flawless - ended up me being out 5k+ in resale (just had an appraisal a week ago) because of undisclosed prior damage and repairs (paint work and body work)
- Only good thing is engine has been flawless since purchase - July '04.
(had the cracked resevoir presumably at purchase and just had the seat belt / airbag light go on it. that just happened so not related to purchase)
Yes, i shoulda caught it but didn't. Had I known about the body work i would have bailed or downed my offer.
IMO - I can't tell whether PH motorcars did the work and concealed it or simply ignored the facts that they were darn well aware of. Either way, Beware!
Caveat emptor.

I think a lot of Upstate New York dealership are tricky. Sutherland auto for another example, we found a 330xi for my wife and let me tell you the car was running great. Even my mechanic said it handles well, but there were so many story under the car once we have it jack up. Sway bar were new replacement, 2 out of 4 shocks are brand new, a big repair and repaint on the a pillar bar,..... The dealer told us that the car was minor damage (key scratch) but we found a lot of problem. Is Paul Herman operating the same way? They are trying to selling the orange turbo for $67,500. Does that sound too high? I wonder whether anyone the story behind this orange turbo. I appreciated all the information especially the auction and pricing. Thank you guys for your help.

They are a small volume shop. My assumption would be they look for super cheap deals at auction (meaning something is awry), find a way to spruce them up, and then turn at maximum margin. Typical of what most similar low volume dealers do. Nothin wrong with that - the 'American Way'. Trick is finding a way to know the real story on the car.
My situation was hopefully not the norm, but does shows how much you can trust 'carfax' - (not much).
I would offer as much as you could assuming the worst. They take it, you have room for repairs if needed. If they don't - oh well. My bet is they have less than $50k in that car. It seems 'rough' for low 20's on the odo. Eerily similar to my car, but mine had over 40k miles.

That's a good point on those low volume dealer. I couldn't agree more!! I think asking for $67,500 is too carry away and I bet some sucker will pay that price. Although the orange setup reminds me of the new 997 GT3RS. I wonder whether there are any issues with the early 996TT?
