Default The Correct Way To Convert RWHP/AWHP to FWHP

Well, there was thread on the other site and my dear friends accused me of being a high school dropout.... actually it was quite funny. The reason I ask is because I was the first in my family to graduate from elementary school... and I feel insulted I digress. My math is fine but I have a difference of opinion with my other forum friends about the proper application of the math in question. The car had 518 RWHP. We agreed on a 12.5% driveline loss. Are we looking for RWHP+ 12.5% loss OR FWHP minus the 12.5% loss. I say the latter but didnt feel like arguing the point. My equation was 518/(1-12.5%) or 518/.875=592FWHP. His math was 518X 1.125=582FWHP. Now I am not an engineer so I do not know which is correct- he quoted from EVO's website that his method is correct. I have my dyno day tomorrow, so I would like to know the correct method since I would prefer to have the most inflated numbers possible so Jean and TB have something to complain about. Kevin

Good luck,
and although math is my strong suit, lets look at the numbers the dyno gives you.
Are you now running 2wD? or just unhooking the fronts for dyno purposes only?

cheers for all your info sharing!

Marty, are you dodging the question!?! I am taking the driveshaft off after my daughter's soccer game today. I will drive to the dyno in RWD since I want to see what it feels like and then run RWD and then put it back in and do AWD. Kevin

My understanding is to divide RWHP by .875 (for a 12.5% loss) to get FWHP, but what the heck do I know....I'm a statistician.

I agree that you would use division to get the number not multiplication.

Where you when I was getting beat up on the other side? Thanks, buddy I was hoping you would chime in. It all comes down to whether you want FWHP -driveline loss or RWHP+ driveline loss. Whatever. Kevin

Kevin, why are you sweating it. Regardless what you get on those dynos it will be wrong.

We know your car has about 500 FWHP and that's plenty enough.

You are killing me! What is the correct way... because I really do not know. My logic tells me I am looking for FWHP-driveline loss, but who knows. Kevin

Jean, look on the bright side... at least I will have a good idea of the differential between AWD and RWD on the same car , same dyno , same day. AWD and RWD tomorrow. Kevin

Just tell the operator how much HP you want and the preferred colours on the graph etc... Keep it simple.
