Post Engine of GT2 versus X 50

Greetings:

1st post

I am a new member. Just purchased a
"stripped" 03 BLK/BLK X50 with the C-brakes.
I have never had a Porsche before. I am
an enthusiast for speed though. I have
a 2000 Suzuki Hayabusa Motorcycle.

January 03 delivery. Question I had
was what are the differences between the
GT-2 and X-50 TT engine? I know what the
factory ratings are. I am just curious how
the internals of the engine and accessories
are different.

Thanks for dropping by.

Ralph-

As far as the engine goes, the difference is 0.1 bar peak boost, otherwise no difference whatsoever.

There is some debate about whether there are any internal differences between the two engines. If there are, they are small differences.

Have you researched the PCCB brakes? You might want to do a search here.

I cancelled my PCCB brakes and got the X50 option instead.

Can't wait for 380mm 8 piston Brembos.

The 8 piston Brembos are now available, but you need to run 19" wheels. The calipers will not clear on 18" wheels.

The GT2 steel brakes are a great alternative, this is how the GT3 cup cars are now equiped. I have upgraded to the GT2 steels and am very happy with this set up. I would highly recommend this upgrade.

I thought standard Porsche brakes were first rate. Superior to Brembo, b/c Porsche manufactures their brakes themselves. I know for sure that it's the Porsche rotors that are the best, does Porsche outsource their Calipers? Could you clarify this?

The calipers are made by Brembo to Porsche specs.

I have a GT2 and even though there is little HP dif there is a tremendous jolt dif between the x50 because the torque is applied to the rear wheels only. I would suggest Brembo 4 piston over the ceramic brakes. The ceramic are made for the track to cover overheating. The Brembos are great for day to day.

Did you get your 380 mm brakes yet? Do they require going to a 19" wheel?

Aren't all "GT" designated Porsche engines based off the GT1 engine? If so, then the differences between the GT2 engine and regular 996TT engine is more than just boost.

I think you are confused Technik, all 996 water cooled motors are based on technology found in the GT1, the GT2 is the turbo evolution of that GT1 based street motor and the GT3 is the NA evolution of the GT1 based street motor.

996racer: I think you mean all variants of the 996 Turbo water cooled motors and the GT3 motor are based on technology found in the GT1. That does not apply to the standard 996 Carrera 2 and Carrera 4 motors.
