Transmission problem
Dear 996TT drivers,
I have happily owned a 993TT for 5 years. A few minor problems. Last month I exchanged for a slightly used 996TT (2001 model) with 9000km on the clock -- checked out by porsche as in excellent condition.
The new car is superb but last week I attended a saftey training course where I intended to push the car and find out any problems while the car is still under warranty.
Unfortunately after some vigorous gear changing. My gear change is fast and fluid. The car would not go into gear. Minutes later it seemed fine and okay for the rest of the day.
During my drive back I found that the 3rd gear was now missing occasionaly and 1st and 2nd gear were very very notchy. Not like before the training.
I took the car to porsche who are looking at the gearbox BUT THEY ARE SAYING IT MAY NOT BE COVERED BY WARRANTY! Somehow they can open it up and discover whether it was my fault!!! is this possible?
I cannot believe this. I think they are going to say somehow I mis-shifted and damaged the tranny.
Having driven a turbo for 6 years I think I know how to change gears and its bull**** to build a car that cannot take safety training that Porsche provide!
My question is has anybody else had similar problems and if so what would be the approach to kick their butt inorder to get the gearbox under warranty.
Many Thanks
N.B I live in Germany which differs from the States warranty.

After about 4500 miles in my '02 TT I suddenly could not get into 1st gear unless the car was at a complete stop (probably the 1st gear synchro). No questions asked, the complete tranny was replaced at no charge. I am in the United States. Good luck.

Got the motor back today...,
Everything was covered by warranty. After 5 weeks of waiting a new gearbox, and cylinder head replacement. The Porsche guys told me that there was a manufacturing defect with the head. Thats ALL!!
Anyway the new gearbox is sweet and exactly how one should be . NO NOTCHY changes or missing gears. Anybody should not expect any problems with their turbo gearboxes. Get it changed... The total money the work cost was the 25K mark...
Thanks for the advice and comments

In the US - Porsche policy on tranny and engine problems for cars under warranty is that they replace them and send the originals to Germany. Only there are they opened and inspected by the techs for any factory defects or new problems!

I heard today, that Porsche now considers US dealers to have enough experience with the TT engine to go ahead and repair them if possible.
I have a friend and his TT has a leaking cylinder head which the dealer is attempting to fix.
