Southern California get together 6/13/03....UPDATE see below
Rather than a Malibu run....which are great BTW! Next Friday 6/13/03, a couple of us are meeting at Buttonwillow raceway near Bakersfield. Occassionally the track puts on a "test and tune" day. Essentially it is 8 hours of unlimited track time (normally there are no run groups).....cost will be $175 paid to the track if anybody is interested in going. Usually they run track 13 or 14 configuration clockwise. For more track details, here is the url.
<a href="http://www.buttonwillowraceway.com" target="_blank">www.buttonwillowraceway.com</a>
It's about 1.5 hour drive from Los Angeles straight up Interstate 5 freeway.
So far I know of three 996 TT's going, plus a 360 Modena Cab, oh and my Dad's LS400! Unconfirmed are a 996 Cab, 4 996 TT's, a 355 Cab and an Audi RS2 Coupe (it's a conversion in case you were wondering). Also a couple of folks may show up from BY Design.
Last time we went it was A LOT of fun....hope to see you there, track opens at 9.00am. Email me if you are thinking of going...

Would we caravan up? If so, where/when to meet up?
If we're not caravaning, what time do we get there?

There is an Arco gas station near my house.....exit Gower off the 101 turn right at the stop sign and its on your left up the hill maybe 300 yards...
From there it is a straight shot up the I101 to the I170 to the I5.....
To get Buttonwillow by 8.30 am, we should leave the gas station no later than 7.00 am.
Let me know if anybody is interested in meeting there....otherwise I'll just see you at the track.

Well you guys really missed out. Three turbos showed up $175 for unlimited access to the track for the day. Perfect weather, good company and some really interesting cars including a Radical, a Toyota Altantic and a Jaguar Trans AM Car. Plenty of time, typically there were 5-6 cars at most on track all day, no run groups, just drive on drive off when you feel like it! Track opened at 9.00am, we packed up around 3.30 pm though the track was open till 5.00pm. I think CODE RED (Red 996 TT) was practicing for Le Mans with his extended 30 lap runs! The driver of the Radical was kind enough to offer rides to those with IRON stomachs.....I passed, I would have puked! That thing can corner....
Hope more of you will come out next time.........too many turbo owners show and shine, spend thousands on upgrades that they never use or need. They never learn to drive their cars....would like to see more turbos at the track in SO CAL!! OK....I'm done ranting!

yeah, damn, 175 for this kind of event is nothing, since you can have as much track time as you can handle. I"ve open tracked on buttonwillow twice before, awesome time...
Were the standard services available? ambulance? tow trucks? flaggers and such?

it's really unreal, from the north it's about 80 miles of just EMPTY twisties followed by miles after miles of [b]EMPTY[b] straight that allowed me to top out my dads C5 roadster a few times. And the roads are just empty and it's a pretty drive.
According to the gauges my avg speed was in the high 80's throughout it all
