I think you can safely assume the tuners involved would have given it their VERY best shot - this is Sport Auto test and they take top speed pretty seriously since (as you know) in Germany you are actually allowed to achieve it legally.

Kevin, what is the red-line speed for the 996tt with stock wheels and tires?

The text does not mention that any top speed was rev-limited and all tuners here do increase the redline for 996tt at least with better turbos.

Toby, we don't know that.. I know for a fact that some of the cars that attended the event did not have the luxury of in house tuning.. We know which one do..

6,750-6,850 soft to hard cut off.. Type one over Revs will start to count-at 6,850 we have Type 2's..

You know that I respect RS Tuning.. You also realize that I have friendships with Sportec.. In all fairness I think that this test went to Sportec... It we look at the braking, acceleration, the numbers point to Sportec... Don't you agree..

The Sportec was undoubtedly faster accelerating, but the RS car had smoother power which may have been a nicer drive 35NM more torque,better fuel consumption at 20.4mpg compared to 18.8mpg and it had the highest top speed, and it was good value at half the price - good value, not a word I'd normally accossiate with anything coming out of Kirchhaslach

If you compare the whole package the Sportec is ~55k DM more expensive than the RS-tuning.
That is a good 35k USD nowadays!

I am a big fan of both tuners and a 580hp Sportec GT2 was one of the fastest cars I ever drove.

But at least the RS-tuning stuff was without any problems in the test whereas the sportec exhaust had some troubles with the insulation that burned away and the low front that scraped the street sometimes. So no real daily driver and not exactly engineered up to the maturity phase at that time.

My RS Tuning 508 DME has the rev limit set at 7000revs.

However, they rave about the Gemballa's handling (lots of GT3 parts), so I think there were multiple winners depending what your preferences are. The Gemballa also had a soft ware glitch at 6000 rpm, momentarly cutting out before reaching redline.

Here's a German RS Tuning 996 Turbo (RC's from Rennteam) doing a top speed run... Although this is a 541bhp kit it seems that 508 kits hit the 7000revs as well but personally I was never able to exceed the 322km/h on the dash (due to excessive traffic). Please note the rather low boost (1.1bar) needed to achieve REAL 541 bhp...

Are your Sportec's US distributor?

Also can someone confirm whether or not Cargraphic USA's power packages are all rebranded RS Tuning kits?

Kiko, there are errors with the stock speedo.. The correct way is to measure with timing lights and GPS on a closed course.

NightStorm, I can get any Sportec parts and accessory that you want/need.

RS Tuning does provide tuning for Cargraphic's.. More importantly there is a working relationship between the two companies. There US distributor has just changed hands..

If I look at FVD they say 510HP@6000rpm/745Nm@4500rpm for the stg2 kit and 540HP@7000rpm/760Nm@4500rpm for the stg3 kit.
At least on paper the difference isn't big. How is it in reality..?

Iv'e been hearing much about Kevins different ZC-kits.
Some have said something about maintenance. Do this setup require more care than say RUF/FVD/Cargr..?
Is it posible for me living in Sweden to buy a complete stg2 kit that will work with the petrol we have (diffenent than in the US)?

As you may notice I do have big problems making up my mind!
Kevin's Stg2 ZC setup is the best performance value ... bar none. it will post very strong numbers... both 60-130 and 1/4 mile traps, 7.93sec and 128+ respectively. 100-200km in 6.8 sec as well.If you want to know what the breakin and install entails just search for my " Zero Clearance Experience" threads. ZC breakin takes time and discipline, but will pay dividends in the long run. Once they are broken in, they do not require any more care than any other turbo... change the oil regularly and idle 2 minutes b4 shutdown. I am biased towards the 16/24 hybrids and have yet to see any K24 numbers that would change my mind. I have a 128+ trap speed and John D just posted a 127+ trap on similar turbos. Good luck with your choice. Give Kevin a call. Even if you do not buy anything from him, you will be better off for having made the call. Kevin G

Of course Kevin! I knew that... actually GPS have been found to have some pretty large tolerances... so if you want to be precise only timing lights and speed wheels will do. I obviously never claimed to be doing 211mph (approx. 341km/h).
