You know, it's very interesting that people are bringing up the idea of dropping the Cayenne 4.5L V-8 in a 911 because I remember reading in a magazine (was it 'Car?' I know it was european) that Porsche has plans to do just that. This is probably all just speculation, but the article went on to say that Porsche plans to redesign the 911 chassis and stick the 4.5L cayenne motor in it. Heh, I can already hear the wailings of current 911 owners who loathed the coming of the 996 and it's 'new fangled, water-cooled, longer wheelbase design.' Now, Porsche would probably save a lot of money by doing that. Instead of having three engine designs (Boxter, 996 and Cayene) they're down to two. Plus, we've already seen that the turbo version of the 4.5L puts out 442 HP (I think that's correct, feel free to flame if not), which is a respectable figure. I'm sure that in the next three years PAG could squeeze at least another twenty out of it. Plus the extra 900cc's would give the car more low-end grunt. Just because the 911 is evolving, doesn't necessarily mean it is losing its spirit. The spirit is just horsepower crazy, that's all!

And I know we can all related to that!

However, I feel I must add that the day Porsche drops the motor in the front of the 911 is the day the model dies a slow and painful death...

I heard that the next 99x TT will be a flat six again and the next GT3 will also be a flat six with 3.8 L

the V8 stuff is just rumors. the flat six rumors came from a P AG guy on an interview to a Geramn Magazin.
