Post Turbo's @ Invoice?

I was wondering if anyone has purchased or seen offers from Authorized Porsche dealers for '03 Turbos at Invoice. I figure with the used ones going for $85~$99K (easily on Ebay), dealers were having hard times trying to get rid of new ones at sticker.

Thanks in advanced.

In the northeast, I've found that $9K is the best you can get off of a $16K profit margin, e.g. $7K over sticker.

i think that it would depend on a case by case basis. certainly, the demand for tt's has decreased significantly. it would mostly depend on the dealer's desire to move the car. a dealer who has been looking at a tt in his inventory for quite some time and needs cash will be the most motivated to sell the car at a price close to invoice. the buyer would have to do some research, and knock on as many doors as possible to look for the best deal.

I agree with what most people have said...but I'd like to add that the last day of the month is a GREAT day to deal with ANY car dealer of ANY brand. Most dealers will bend over backwards to sell than extra unit on the last day of the month to help their holdback figures.

That being said...tomorrow is the last day of the month...who's up for some car shopping!!

just for reference, in autoweek there were 2 2001's w/ less then 7K on them selling for mid 90's. That's the asking price, I bet they'd go for high 80's if you tried to deal. So that's just a thought, doesn't really help you on your invoice thoughts for a new car.

Guys,

Thanks for the response. Now comes the ultimate question...one that I am sure has been argued or brought up several times (apologies in advanced)

Here is the dilemma:

New 996TT (assuming inv + $7K over) = $110K
Used 996TT (01', 10K) = $92K
New 360 = $160K+
Used 360 ('99, 8K miles, Euro) = $112K
Used 360 ('99, 7K miles, US) = $139K

Please take note that a 996TT will not be stock. I will upgrade the heck out of it, so it's best to add another $10K to the price of the car.

Looking to see what you fellow Porsche owners would do.

Damn these decisions

IMHO, forget the factory new 360 - TOTAL waste of money.

Before I can say anything else, it really depends on how long you keep your cars. If you are looking to keep it until forever, then you can't go wrong with any of the cars. Of course, Porsches have been known to last a long time with basic maintenance, while Ferraris are known to last a long time with a lot of very expen$ive manintenance.

If you keep your cars only a short time like me, you should probably lease a new turbo, assuming we are only talking about the money. If your credit it superb, and I mean ULTRA CLEAN (740+ FICO and comparable financing in your immediate past) you can do a knock-your-socks-off cheap lease on a used turbo through Chase.

Assuming you want to buy and not lease:

Dollar wise, your best deal is going to be on the used Turbo. I would also choose the turbo based on daily drivability. That is not to say that you could not drive a 360 everyday, but when was the last time you heard of someone putting 15,000 miles a year on a Ferrari?

In terms of customization/upgradability the turbo takes the cake hands down. You will probably spend twice as much upgrading the 360 and you wont be able to do half the stuff you can with a turbo.

If you're looking for most exotic / attention getting car (ie. you want your ego stroked) you should go with the 360. I don't say this in an insulting way, because deep down we all know that we like a little ego boost now and again.

IMO, and please don't ream me, the only reason people would want a Ferrari are:

1. They are extraordinarily wealthy and want "the best"

2. They want/need an ego boost

3. They want to have one of the most exclusive cars in the world (refer to #2).

4. They have trouble finding dates (refer to #2).

5. They either like having garage queens, or they don't mind spending $7K - $10K a year on maintenance.

6. Or simply, it has been a dream and now you can afford it.

I hope that I have accomplished more than simply spewing meaningless opinions at you. That said, happy car hunting!

I am a die hard Porsche guy, but I will admit, the sound of a 360 Modena with the Tubi (hell, the stock exhaust) is hard to beat.

I'd personally go for the 01 TT for 92K. Still under warranty and you can get some nice mods in the 10-15K range.

They make Porsches look low performance and low tech. The N/A Modena has nearly the horsepower of the 996 Turbo, and with less displacement. But as for finding a new one in LA for $160k+, that plus better be 20 or 30 grand.

Hey guys,

I have been surfin this forum a while and just decided to register today to post on this interesting post. Being that I have both cars, I think I am somewhat an "Expert" on the topic.

James, allow me to ask you this, what are you planning to do with 10k on the turbo? On mine, I have a set of custom set of ohlins coilovers that were $8000 itself. I have 19 inch kinesis wheels and that set me back about $5000 with rubber. Europipe exhaust is another $4000. I dont want to ramble on and on about what I have done to the engine, but your $10k will come up well short if you have big plans for it.

Ive seen you post several topics about what to buy. I think you asked the same questions about the sl55 and the turbo. Now its the 360 and the turbo. Let me help you with a decision. I was fortunate enough to buy both of my cars new. I would NEVER EVER consider getting either secnd hand. Why? Who would buy cars like these to drive "Modestly"? Ask yourself this, the people who buy these cars are affluent, flamboyant, and want to be noticed. They are most likely to be the ones who will push eash of these cars to its upper limits. With that said, would you still want a car that has been driven that hard? Do you know if it was broken in properly etc, etc?

I say, if you can afford a $90k turbo and are planning on modding it, why not just pony up another 30k and buy a piece of mind?

If youre really going to step up and get a 360, let me know, I bought my last 2 at Ferrari of Los Gatos, I'll put in a good word for you.

Sorry if I sound coarse, but its a waste of all of our time when you ask the same question but change up the players involved. They are both awesome cars and I had a hard time deciding between the two, what did I do? i bought both! <img border="0" alt="[cheers]" title="" src="graemlins/beerchug.gif" />

Joe,

Thanks for the input.

I did end up buying the SL55. Blk/blk. Awesome car, but for a different duty.

As for the issue of buying used. I will not buy one that is wrecked or reworked. Of course I will check out the car and do a PPI. The reason for the "used car" consideration is because taking a hit on a new one is a one time learned lesson. I have a 996 C2 now and brand new it cost $90K OTD (not to mention the aftermarket things added). With 14K miles, '00 MY, it's only worth about $50K at most on a trade. So hence my lesson learned.

As for the 996TT, the $10K will go for $3K PSS9, $3K chip tune, $3500 exhaust. Done that's it.

Los Gatos...aren't they linked to Symbolic Motors? Same owner I think. If that's the case I am a less enthusiastic about buying from them. They're usually overpriced.

Thanks.
