Post Datalogger, OBDII scanner for your Palm Pilot

I know that KPV posted the CarChip Datalogger/OBDII Scanner, so I figured that I would offer yet another product that does the same thing on the Palm. This will allow you to view/log in realtime as you are driving, unlike the CarChip.

It is called the Pocketlogger. I believe that it can capture data a bit faster than the CarChip, though. It runs $175, so it is around the same price as the Carchip. It comes with the software and cable interface for your OBDII port. You can view the data WHILE you drive in real time. No need to download it to view. However, you can use Palm's Hotsync to put the datagraphs on your computer and view them using the Java Data and Graph viewer. Very good info that can be saved. I talked with the creator and version 2.0 will be coming out in a few months with even more functions.

I currently use this on my 2001 Turbo, so if anyone has any questions, I will be happy to answer them. (This will also work on many other OBDII vehicles as well.)

PocketLOGGER is the only Palm Computing Platform based automotive datalogger for OBDII equipped cars with the ISO 9141-2 interface.

Some of PocketLOGGER's features:

-Fully molded cable. No Boxes or glued together connectors
-No laptop needed!!
-Works on any handheld running Palm OS 3.0 or later
-Datalog routines based on the proven DSM version
-Capable of reading 22 different engine parameters
-View sensor values for up to 12 parameters at once
-Graphically datalog up to 12 parameters at once
-Data capture rates of 20 samples per second or more are possible
-Review saved logs
-Log size only limited by available memory
-Efficient log storage saves limited handheld memory
-Diagnostic Trouble Code extraction and clearing

A few screen shots of how it looks:

Diagnostic Trouble Code identification/clearing:

Ruiner,
Sounds like a neat product. My only problem is that I am in the PocketPC camp (aka: IPAQ) rather than Palm. Do they make a program for the PocketPC 2002 OS?

I remember you saying that in an earlier post about being an IPAQ user. This is just for the Palm OS 3.0 or greater I do believe.

Then a cheaper one if you own a laptop;

They mention group purchase options.

I don't know too much about any of the aforementioned links or products other than that they use a Palm, PocketPC or Windows based device to display OBDII info. Be careful. If your intent is to watch the data as you drive there are several issues.
</font><ol type="A">[*]<font size="2" face="Verdana,Tahoma,Helvetica">Safety could be an issue if your attention is drawn to another screen of data (I know, it is a no-brainer)</font></li>[*]<font size="2" face="Verdana,Tahoma,Helvetica">It looked like at least one of the devices has a fairly large black box connected to the OBDII connector. This would undoubtedly cause interference with your legs while driving.</font></li>[/list=a]<font size="2" face="Verdana,Tahoma,Helvetica">If you only want to collect data and view it at your leisure, get the Carchip. It is the least intrusive and it works fabulously.
