Thumbs up Saw a superwidebody Ruf R Turbo today... anyone here?

Today was a car lover's dream. In the morning I got to see a beautiful silver 996 Turbo with the TechArt Stage 2 body kit. I had just seen this car yesterday over at By Design. It runs 600hp on 1.3 bar boost.

Then around lunchtime, I had the pleasure of running into Deanger at Cross Creek, with his amazing seal gray GT2 drawing crowds of people admiring the car.

Then about an hour ago I was hanging out at the Cross Creek shopping center in Malibu yet again, and what do I see parked behind me? A Lapis Blue Ruf R Turbo. But I have NEVER seen an R Turbo like this, it was the most beautiful thing I have ever seen. It made me feel more lustful than seeing some of the scantily clad chicks at the Halloween party I went to!

The car had a special widebody conversion, The front fenders looked like the ones from the TechArt widebody kit, and the rear looked like the Manthey 996 Turbo from the other thread. The edge of the fenders extended about 3 or 4 inches beyond the edge of the tailights! In fact, it was so wide that there were vents or air inlets next to the tailights!

Then it was outfitted with a GT2 wing with one difference. The base was GT2, but the top wing was a custom carbon fiber wing that extended all the way across to the edges of the tailights. The wing itself was as wide as the stock 996 Turbo.

Instead of having the air inlets behind the rear door on the side of the rear fenders, this car had the triangular shaped ducts on the top of the fenders, just like the CTR Yellowbird or the narrow bodied R Turbo.

The front of the car had the Ruf R Turbo add on front spoiler, but the bumper itself was modified as well. The horizontal slat inserts were pulled out so that the air inlets in the front were recessed like the GT2's. However, it had no cross bar between the holes. Instead, the guy put a silver mesh inside the 3 inlets. VERY AGGRESSIVE LOOK!

The wheels were Ruf, but not the standard design. It was the multispoke ones that look like the HRE 549 or the SL 55 wheel. I think it was multi-piece but had no rivets in them. I have never seen these wheels before, but judging from the Ruf center caps, I think they were Ruf wheels.

The interior had leather trimmed GT3 seats, the Integrated Roll Cage, as well as a racing Rollbar, all trimmed in leather, so it took a close look to notice it. It also had the Ruf steering wheel. I could tell this was not a conversion, it seemed to be a Ruf factory car, made in Pfaffenhausen.

The car also had Oregon plates. Don't blame him because who would want to pay sales tax on something like this? Sales tax would be as much as an M3 in the People's Republic of California.

What was funny was that the owner and his little daughter were in the Automotive Legends store while my buddy and I were gawking over this goddess of a machine. When my friend ran his finger lightly over the paint, the little girl ran outside and smiled, and said, "My car! No one can touch it except for me! I can drive this car too!" She seems to be well trained from Daddy. Cutest little girl though... LUCKY as all hell too to ride in a car like that!

If only I had my camera...

It was easily the most beautiful Porsche I have ever seen.

Anyone know anything about this car? Didn't know Ruf made such a super widebody....

I was going to, but my buddy wanted to get back to our table, since we had other people with us. He also seemed a little busy and preoccupied, so I didn't want to be rude.

I'm sure I'll see him around again. Malibu is a very, very small place with lots of exotic cars!

Hamann,

The silver 996TT you saw is Matt's car. He was returning from a morning drive in the canyons with seven other cars (including 5 other TTs). Deanger also joined the tail end of our drive in his GT2. You should join us one of these weekends.

Craig,

Next time you guys go out, I'm there!

Yes, I met Matt yesterday at By Design, he is a really cool guy, as are all the people there.

Please email me at racingfiend@yahoo.com and I will forward you all my contact info.

So have you seen this R Turbo that I'm describing?

The car is a RUF manufactured car with a RUF VIN number, recently purchased used by an acquaintance of mine. The wheels, while they have RUF center caps, are actually Fikse wheels. The owner has more than 20 special cars, including Ferrari 360 challenge and GT cars, numerous Ferrari and Lambo street cars, a Pagani Zonda, Porsche GT3R, etc. Trust me, you WON'T be seeing him join us on one of the Malibu cruises, even though he does live in Malibu. However, you might catch him on PCH running some errands.

Next time you guys are out in Malibu, I'd like to bring a Ruf 993 Turbo R. If you think that might be fun, drop me a private message with the weekend details.

Yeah, my buddies saw his Pagani Zonda driving into Cross Creek sometime this past weekend as well.

Running errands? What a shame with such an awesome machine... it reminds me of that one guy in Malibu who uses his Ferrari F40 as a grocery getter.

If he doesn't want to track the cars or drive the **** out of them, why does he have so many wonderful cars?

Yes, I could tell it was a Ruf manufactured car, there were too many Ruf details for it to have been a conversion car, for instance the Ruf airbag steering wheel... or the superwide fenders.

I heard that this car is actually a 996 CTR2. One of the guys on the M5 board went to Pfaffenhausen to visit the Ruf factory, and what do you know? It was being built earlier this year, and it is the only 996 CTR2 in existence.

Bill, I'm sure the guys would DEFINITELY love to have you in the 993 Turbo R. <img src="graemlins/bigok.gif" border="0" alt="[thumbsup]" />

From what I hear, you will be in some very fast company!

The owner does in fact track many of his cars quite extensively. In fact, on occasion, he will transport/flatbed several cars to the track for his own private track day. He just prefers to go fast on the track and not the street.

Wow... a private track day... that is pretty cool indeed. Is he "industry" by any chance? Just curious.

So have you ever seen this Ruf in action before?

Bill,

Come on down. We meet almost every Sunday. Send me a private message with your e-mail and I'll keep you posted. All I ask is that you not embarrass us 996TTs drivers . . . ease up a bit so we can keep up.

Come on Craig -- this from a guy who just turned an 11.89 in the 1/4 mile.

Besides, Bill knows how fast some 996TT's can run -- he's done some sprints against Amir's car.

I recently did a track day with a guy who drives this for his daily trips:

<a href="http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploads/99RTurboAngle-M.jpg" target="_blank"> </a>

<a href="http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploads/99RTurboSmile-M.jpg" target="_blank"> </a>

<a href="http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploads/99RTurboButt-M.jpg" target="_blank"> </a>

I apologize in advance for posting pictures of his car without his knowledge, but it's a heck of a drool-inducing ride.

Yep, that's the car! that's the car! <img src="graemlins/a_smil17.gif" border="0" alt="[blabla]" />

That car looks about 100 times better in person, even though those are some great photos you shot there! <img src="graemlins/bigok.gif" border="0" alt="[thumbsup]" />
